22"H Free-standing Steel Mesh Pet Gate Barrier 4.8 5 178 193
Don't Hestitate for a Second We got new carpet upstairs, and needed a barrier to keep our Shih Tzu from sneaking upstairs and damaging the carpet. Every barrier we used would get knocked over or she would find a way around it. Not this one. This gate looks beautiful and actually enhances the decor. Since it is free-standing, it doesn't knock the paint off the walls. It is sturdy metal, and the dog won't go anywhere near it. It is low enough that my kids and husband can step over it easily. This is a heirloom quality investment you won't regret. April 9, 2014
22" H Free-standing Steel Mesh Pet Gate Barrier The item is well made, durable, and attractive. However, it is problematical to enter or exit the room with the barrier in place. You must swing it out of your way. It would be helpful if it had a moveable section that would slide in or out of place so that you could easily enter or exit the room without removing the barrier. June 4, 2014
Worth every penny Bought this gate to keep my two newfoundlands in the kitchen. They weigh 135 llbs. each and stand about 2 feet at the shoulders. Neither one pushes this gate nor do they attempt to jump over it. They are not known to jump, although my youngest is very active. This is very sturdy, I just slide it at an angle to get by, rather than stepping over it. I am going to purchase another so my 3rd older girl newf can go straight into the kitchen if she wants to be with her two brothers. Very attractive gate and well made. Works for my big dogs! March 23, 2014
Rock Solid I have the broken toe to prove it! Maybe a model with a nite lite for people like me. We have four of them and they are not at all an eyesore and will likely last long past our need for them. June 20, 2014
Never Been Diappointed FRONTGATE has always had exactly what I wanted--sometimes exceeding my expectations. I wanted something to look nice in our home to keep our "little boy" (pet) out of certain rooms but had used wooden gates before and did not like the looks when company entered the house. At first I thought the gates were too expensive but FRONTGATE does have sales and free shipping on occasion and that helped bring them down to a price I could afford for 3. Thanks FRONTGATE April 12, 2014
love it bought another Looks great, one newfie is afraid of it so I have to slide it far away so he can run by it to go outside. Younger newfie saw how I just push it aside so now he knows what to do, so I wedged it in-between the door frame so he cannot get his paw around it and that worked. Great buy and is a good barrier to keep the drool and dust out of the formal rooms. Keeps the house a little cleaner for awhile anyway. Glad I bought them. April 7, 2014
Functional and Decorative Sturdy and functional. Not easily moved due to weight. Decorative and beautiful. Several drilled holes for adjusting but could use another one May 31, 2014
pet gate when this gate arrived, I was pleased with the look. The color fits in well with my décor. The only reason I did not give it a 5 was the actual height the gate is very low. However my 5 month old Lhasa Apso can not jump over the gate. The gate does add elegance to your area. I had company for the allstar weekend and my friends says that they would be ordering gates for their home. notice that I didn't say for their dogs. It's like buying a piece of furniture although very pricey for a doggie gate. February 21, 2014
Perfect Decorative Barrier The living room heirloom wool rug was particularly attractive to my Cavalier. Clear packing tape was aesthetically acceptable but ineffective - he would crawl under it. Two baby gates held together with twist ties were effective but very ugly, especially being the first thing guests see when entering the front door. This steel mesh pet gate was incredibly easy to set-up and came with extremely well-written instructions. It is totally beautiful and very effective. It is also very sturdy, even extended to its widest to fit the over-sized opening. Wish I had purchased this years ago but better late than never. July 4, 2013
Love My Doggie Gate This gate is gorgeous and easy to assemble. It's so solid that I don't worry about adjusting it to fit the doorway, you can just leave it on the smallest setting and adjust how you place it. My dog who used to just ram through other dog gates now stays put. April 30, 2014
Pet Gate I have been looking for a gate to keep my ferret contained in my office at work without having to close my door. It was difficult to find a gate without any gaps in it that she could squeeze through. This gate was perfect. It was solid all the way around and it was heavy enough that I don't worry about her tipping it if she climbs on it (or the cats)! Plus everyone at work, including our clients, commented on how attractive it was. Big thumbs up all the way around! February 11, 2014
Just what I needed Finally found a dog barrier that looks good and works well. May 16, 2014
Perfect in every way This pet barrier has wonderful transitional designer look, super flexibility, and is nicely made. It's the perfect height to contain my puppy to his designated training zone, but let him see where I am in remainder of the living area. Fairly easy for me to get over it when needed; light enough to move when I want, but heavy enough that the puppy can't push it around, even when he's grown to full 12 lbs.( A very large dog might need something taller though.) January 23, 2014
"Nicest dog gate I ever seen" My dog walker said "These are the nicest dog gates I ever seen!". We are happy with the product. They are well made; easy to put together and the width is adjustable. We thought it's nice that the gate comes with rubber pads at the bottom and on the sides; which keeping the floor and door frames from scratched. March 28, 2014
Love This Gate We have 2 Maltese puppies. I bought 3 of these gates and I couldn't be happier. I initially purchased wooden and plastic gates, various brands, and nothing compares to these iron gates. They are sturdy and safe. I won't hesitate to buy taller gates from Frontgate in the future if my dogs outgrow these gates. This is, by far, the best product for this size gate that I've found anywhere. Thank you, Frontgate! February 12, 2014
great looking pet gate I ordered 1 of the shorter gates and 2 of the longer ones. They really look great and I especially like the fact that they are free standing and won't mar walls with special paint finishes. That said, 2 of the gates had pretty significant flaws that my son-in-law was able to fix. I really wanted to be able to use the gates, and it is such a hassle to return such a large item. One of the longer gates actually had 2 of the same panels instead of one right and one left. The hinges on the shorter gate didn't fit on one side. After modifications, they look good and I'm pleased with them. April 6, 2012
Free Standing Steel 22" Pet Gate Quality on this item is great. We were so impressed with the item, we bought a second larger one. Well worth the money! April 30, 2014
Great gates! I purchased 2 of these gates to contain my four small dogs. The gates came quickly and I received fabulous customer service regarding having them shipped to Canada. The gates are exactly as they are advertised to be on the site. They are great looking, sturdy yet light enough to move, low enough to step over but high enough to contain my dogs and they were simple for me to assemble in just a few minutes time by myself. These gates will also be fantastic to keep my infant grandkids safe at my house as they grow and begin to crawl around and explore. Definately a good purchase. November 21, 2012
Great gates! Thank you for offering a pet gate that actually has some style to it! We have a small dog that we want to keep out of a couple rooms when we aren't around. We bought these gates and love them. We don't even bolt them together, just having them there is enough to deter her. They look great and we can easily step over them and just move them when we have company and want easy access to the rooms. February 11, 2014
Beautiful Pet Gate We love this pet gate for our puppy. It is heavy, sturdy, and beautiful. It allows our dog to see the action, but not get in on the action. The screen is so much nicer than those white puppy gates that are out there. Several friends have even remarked that it looks like an upscale fireplace screen. Not a bad idea for the future. It is easy to move back and forth or to block off other doorways, as needed. Our dog is quite small (4 lbs) so jumping over it is not an issue, but it might be an issue for a larger dog. Excellent product! September 3, 2013
VERY IMPRESSED BEFORE THIS PURCHASE, LIVING WITH AN UGLY CHILD GATE IN MAIN HALLWAY... THIS PET GATE WAS EVEN MORE SUBSTANTIAL THAN IT LOOKED IN THE CATALOG. EXCELLENT VALUE FOR THE MONEY. ADJUSTABLE WIDTH ALLOWED US TO FIT WITHIN 1/8 OF OUR OPENING. GUESTS ARE VERY IMPRESSED AND IT'S EASY TO STEP OVER! MY HUSBAND'S COMMENT: IT'S ONE OF THOSE THINGS YOU ASK YOURSELF, WHY DIDN'T WE DO THIS YEARS AGO!? February 12, 2014
Mesh Pet Gate - delivered as promised Extremely happy with the service and the product. The free standing pet barrier is exactly what I needed. I have 2 mini schnauzers that are very old and couldn't go up and down the stairs any more. This gate is very nice looking, easy to assemble and works perfect. In the past we just leaned a baby gate against the top of the steps and it looked terrible and you would knock it over if you tried to step over it. Very pleased with the purchase. December 23, 2013
pretty utility item Free-standing mesh pet-gate barrier. This is a very attractive gate, which adjusts nicely to fit in front of our stairs. It is not too heavy to move out of the way when needed. We bought it to keep our old dog from going upstairs, since with her arthritis, she tends to miss steps coming down and we were afraid she would break a hip or leg. A friend visited a few days ago and remarked on the attractiveness of the gate. Would recommend it highly where the setup is appropriate. Assembly is required but not too difficult if you study the picture a bit. February 12, 2013
Nice quality It is a really nice quality. Sturdy, heavy, so my dog hasn't tipped it when he jumps up on it. My only reason for not giving it 5 stars; it is not as adjustable as I would have liked. I can not adjust it to fit my door way exactly. I had to make it wider and set it out side the doorway. It is a bit of a problem but it is the heaviest, sturdiest pet gate I have bought to date and I have gone through quite a few. I am keeping it so that speaks volumes. November 25, 2013
Free standing steel mesh pet gate Extremely nice quality, sturdy, versatile, classy pet gate/barrier. Love that they stand alone, I can move them around, use at different doorways, and they don't leave indentations or suction marks on the wall. Low enough to step over, but high enough to keep my doxies out of the room. February 27, 2014
LOVE LOVE the doggie gates!!!! Seriously, these gates are gorgeous, sturdy, low enough that I can step over but keeps my little chihuahuas where they should be. Even my husband comments regularly how great they are. No more opening the usual ugly/typical baby gates, or ruining the doorways, or having to adjust them. I could not be happier, I have 2 so far and keep thinking where I could put another just to buy another. January 8, 2014
A perfect solution. The pet gate is exactly what we were looking for; it was easy to assemble , is attractive and functions perfectly. It's also very easy to step over and move out of the way when necessary. We bought three of them! March 4, 2014
Beautiful! absolutely beautiful. compliments the larger free standing gate. definitely recommend. nicely made. pretty decor. March 25, 2014
Getting the job done! I read the existing reviews and agree with the quality comments. These are beautiful and well constructed (I bought 2). I also agree with the comments stating that 22" is higher than you think when you are constantly stepping over it and my husband keeps hitting them when stepping over. HOWEVER - my dogs can't get past them and don't even try. So my 3 oriental rugs are now safe and sound! The gates are also not too heavy to be moved aside when humans need to pass through! July 18, 2013
Great quality product, but didn't work as barrier This gate is beautiful, high quality and easy to assemble, however, my 6 pound,3 month old mini labor doodle puppy figured out how to climb it and get over it in about 3 days. I am assuming because of the mesh, he is able to grab hold to hoist himself over. Unfortunately, I will have to exchange for a higher gate and will try the more traditional gates with bars, too bad, it is really beautiful! October 29, 2013

Also, I see comments about it being heavy...I will be pushing it aside or sliding it smaller... when he is allowed into the other rooms. Is that easy to do on a daily basis?
Love the look!

Answer:
We appreciate your interest in this item. This gate weighs 29lb, which would make it easy for you to move the gate out of the way when he is allowed in other rooms. As for if your Yorkie will be able to move this out of the way to sneak through the sides, we have no way to guarantee that. Some dogs are afraid to move items as they fear they will fall on them, while others are fearless. It would also depend on the placement of the gate - if there was anything on either side to assist with keeping it in place.

Answer:
My yorkie is unable to move it due to the weight of the gate. Be prepared for the weight, it is not easy to pick up and move around, but moving one end to let him through would not be a problem. Sliding it smaller is not an option as the gate is adjusted to the size you need when you assemble it, then you insert several screws to hold it in that position. You do not have the option to constantly change the size without getting out the tool and removing/re-inserting the screws.

I doubt your yorkie will be able to push it. I have four small dogs and this has never happened. This gate is not a good candidate for daily adjustment. It can easily be moved by a person however. It is not too heavy.

Answer:
I move mine regularly, just pick it up from the sides. It's not light but not really heavy to move either. It looks great and is absolutely sturdy enough to keep a yorkie contained. I have a Bichon/Shih tzu, a yorkie, a coton du tulear and her very energetic puppy and my gates work very well to keep them in/out where I want them - no squeezing by and they cannot knock the gate aside either.

Answer:
Your Yorkie will not be able to move it, it weighs close to 30 pounds and I am disabled and am able to move mine without any issues. I will say they are so attractive, that I do not even move mine much, as all 4 bedrooms have beautiful FRONTGATE gates attached that open, the hard wood ones they no longer make, with a little door I walk thru and they are all so beautiful, they actually make my doorways look better!! Every person that enters my home comments on my gates and wants to know where I got them all! I have a 10 pound schnoodle and a 22 pounds schnoodle and neither one of them can move them! Get them :)

Answer:
In general, he should not be able to push it. It's pretty sturdy and heavy. However, if the gate doesn't fit the opening properly, and leaves inches open, or if you haven't used the screws to hold the end pieces securely in place, he could maybe wiggle those and snake through. You can't slide them smaller. The gate is screwed together into the configuration you need for your opening. The pieces don't 'slide'. You'd just have to lift the unit and move it aside. I size my gates so that the side pieces are inside the opening, not in front of the opening (as in the picture)... then my dog can't push or work it open.

Answer:
The footings are very attractive and mine are on my hardwood floors and do not scratch your floors. The gates are barely 30 pounds and can be lifted even by myself being disabled. The best thing I can advise is to lift them, not drag if your concerned about your floors, but my floors have not one mark from my gates. You may ant to apply a felt stick on pad just for GP if that eases your mind. The gates match my dining room so beautifully, that I no longer even remove them like the older ugly baby gates I had because they are so decorative and people have noticed them as they enter my home and fall in love and want them for themselves.
