Quality at a very affordable price!
When this gate arrived, it far exceeded my expectations! For the price I was not expecting it to be as heavy and well-made ... and it does not look bad in my home at all. I also like the fact that my dogs can see through it and it is heavy enough they cannot knock it down. Also love the details -- cushioned so it does not mar my moldings or door frame. Thank you Frontgate! You never disappoint!

Loved the pet gate
We really love the pet gate that we purchased. We ordered another one to block another part of the house. Already have had compliments on how beautiful it is. Would definitely recommend this product.

Does the Job
We purchased this gate for a couple of reasons; first, we wanted to keep out dog in the kitchen area and it definitely does the job. Second, we wanted our grandson to stay away from the stairway in the hallway and it also works for us. The only issue I have with the gate is that it wobbles; we are going to get chair pads to put on the bottom so that does not happen.

Shipped quickly. Easy set-up. Looks beautiful and works great! My daughter bought several for her dogs and they worked so well for her that I bought one also. I'm thoroughly satisfied and highly reccomend it.

Love this Gate
Gate was shipped out, and recieved on time.. It is beautiful, heavy, and just make the transition between my rooms just great. Opens and closes the best. I have already ordered 2 more of the higher tension gates to match.. I am totally happy with this company, A gate above

Great design
The heavy gauge construction of this gate was such an improvement over the wooden gate we had before. We use this gate to separate two 6 lb Pappillons from our 80 lb Lab at night time. This gate is heavy enough that it dissuades the Lab from easily pushing it aside and accessing areas we don't want her in. It is beautifully constructed and assembles in 5 minutes. It arrived perfectly packaged without the slightest scratch or blemish. The door only opens one way, but that was not a real problem for us. Overall we are very impressed!!

Beautiful gate!
We bought this gate to replace an old outdated looking one that we have had for years. We needed a gate to keep our dogs out of the living room and other parts of the house. This gate looks beautiful and fits in nicely with our décor. It is sturdy and easy to open. We love it!

I want to use this gate at the top of the stairs, has anyone used at top of stairs without wall for it to lean against?

I have not used it at the top of stairs, but you will notice that it is very stable and would be difficult to push over. Of course, if your dog is heave or very large, they may be able to knock it over, but I've had a doberman all over mine and it never fell over.6 months ago

Answer:
I would have to see your stairwell or at least know the dimensions but for the most part, this gate is just what it says it is "free standing" and it's quite sturdy. We have giant and large breed dogs (weigh 158, 110 and 85 lbs, respectively). Since the two larger dogs often "challenge" gates or simply barrel through them, we decided to turn this gate inward between our dining and living room. The gate opens "in" so they are unable to push on it - works like a charm. You'd have to be sure the gate expands past the opening at the top of your stairs but the opening between the two rooms in our house is 70" or almost 6 feet. the gate has a magnetic closure so it swings shut automatically if you let it go and latches. Hope this helps. (The gate is lovely and quite well made). Denise in Land O' LakesLength of Ownership: < 1 year

We installed ours on the top of some stairs and to make it very stable, I cut two blocks of wood (4" X 4" X 7" L) to slide under the legs and this made the fully opened gate extremely strong. I stained them brown to match the stairs and they are almost invisible beneath the metal legs. Even opening and closing the door is easier and can be done with one hand now.Length of Ownership: < 1 year

4 ft opening
We have a 4ft opening from our kitchen into our living room that we would like to install a gate that would keep two VERY strong 25 lbs dogs out of the living room. Would this gate be able to fit into that opening?
Answers
Answer:
This free standing gate might not work. The smallest opening is 55 in. but it depends on your opening. If your opening is stright across then it might still work. See in the picture how the sides are at 90 degrees to the gate. If your opening is stright across then you could set it up to the wall in the Kitchen and they could not push it at all.Or like at my house I have an opening that is about 50 in. wide and I have 2 walls that end so we have ours with the sides of the gate on the out side of each wall. It works great.
Length of Ownership: < 1 year
Answer:
The minimum length is 55" so it would be too long for your opening; however, I have resoved this issue by installing the gate on one side of the doorway rather than inside the doorway. The gate will be a little larger than your opening, but it will still be flush with your wall so no critters can get by it.6 months ago
Answer:
You said your opening is 4feet. Ours is actualy much lager (about 70" or almost 6 feet. We simply used the extension provided and reversed the gate so it opens into our dining room and the dogs are unable to move it. Our dogs weigh 158 lbs, 110 lbs and 85 lbs. My husband plans on making a minor adjustment to keep the larger dogs from moving the gate from the side if they choose to lay down in the corner of the dining room. It hasn't happened yet, but it might. But for a conventional 4 foot opening and 25 lb. dogs, I think you'd be fine. Denise in Land O'Lakes, FLLength of Ownership: < 1 year

Are the side panels included in the max. 40"/70" widths or can I use the smaller version to close a 5' opening if I leave the side panels at an angle?
How long is the smaller version with the two side panels straight with the center panels? Or, when the gate is placed flat on the floor, how long is the entire gate (panels flat as well)? Is that how you measure the maximum widths (small 40" and large 70") with the side panels included in the measurement?
5 months, 2 weeks ago
Answers
Answer:
Well the side panels are part of the feet that stabilize it. They are attached by pins, then screws so I'm not sure you would want to keep them at an angle as that may compromise the stability of the product and could even result in it possible tipping over onto your pet or child. So yes, the side panels are included in the 40 to 70" width, when they are attached but as sides not flat, but your able to adjust it very easily for width adjustment, but only at that specified width. They have smaller gates in the catalog or online if your looking for a smaller or larger opening. Leaving the side panels open would not give it a base for stability. I hope this helps you.Length of Ownership: < 1 year
Answer:
The side panels are the support and stand just as the picture shows. They are not included in the width dimension. You will need to purchase the gate that meets or exceeds the width of your opening. The 70" size will work for your 5' door opening. You will adjust the gate's size down to as close to the 5' opening as you can.
5 months, 2 weeks ago
Answer:
The side panels attach to the front at a right angle. There is no ability to have the side panels at an angle. The max width includes side panel attached.

Answer:
I think you want to know if this gate will cover a wider width than it's specified? It fits the widths specified with the sides/feet perpendicular to the panels (as pictured). The side panels are not made to be lined up with the main panels and are not part of the width covered. If you need a wider width like I did (60" without having to hurdle over a gate) I purchased the tall/walk through wider gate. Both are Very worth the purchase.Length of Ownership: < 1 year

I have an 84" opening. If I buy 2 barriers, can I combine them and attach panels/pieces to fit that wide an opening?

Answer:
We appreciate your interest in this item. Unfortunately due to the design of this item. additional pieces cannot be combined together to create a larger gate. We apologize for any inconvenience.Answer:
I think you could. The main piece with the door and large panel is 51 inches. Then there is a 21 inch panel to extend it, with holes spaced 3 inches apart. I think you could attach the two 21 inch panels to each other to get the length you need, tilting the wings if you need to adjust the width an inch or two.7 months ago

gate latch
is the gate latch easy to operate with your hands full? does it lock top and bottom? And does the latch operate both or do you have to stoop down to unlatch the bottom? Is the gate easy to scoot if the dog tries to push it? Our little Yorkie often moves the gate we have now, so we are looking for a heavier one.

Answer:
You probably do need one hand to open the gate. It is a sliding mechanism at the top only (no bottom latch). Once it is open, you can push through it with hands full and it swings back by itself to shut.Length of Ownership: < 1 year
9 months ago
Answer:
We have found the latch quite easy to work, and I have had my hands full a time or two. There is only a top latch, but it has proved to be all that is needed. We secured the gate with screws, so I cannot accurately answer your question of scooting. I can tell you the gate is quite heavy.Length of Ownership: < 1 year
9 months ago
Answer:
There is only a latch up top and unless you push the latch or slam it - it stays slightly open. We prefer that as we have our gate to block up staircase and since we go up and down it a lot - it helps that it doesn't latch unless we want it too. Our dog can't get through it when it's not latched - as it stays closed well enough but this way you can just use your leg to open it while you may have items in your hands.Length of Ownership: < 1 year
9 months ago
Answer:
The gate does require a free hand to operate. It has a good weight to it so two hands are better. The lock is only on the top of the gate. I have two welsh corgis and they are not able to move it. Again, it has good weight to it.Length of Ownership: < 1 year

Answer:
Yes it is easy. I have an 8 week Golden and can carry him in one hand and pull the latch open with the other. The latch is only at the top and you don't need to stoop down or anything to undo it. The door swings back on it's own as well and latches. At this point we feel it is pretty sturdy because of the horizontal legs on on both sides and we haven't even connected all the pieces yet.9 months ago
Answer:
Yes, it is easy to operate. It has one sliding lock on the top where you can reach down without bending (and I am 6'5"). The gate is heavy and hard to move, but the sides are angled and can be moved by the dog so he can wedge himself through if you don't anchor the sides firmly against the wall. But it is plenty heavy enough for Yorkies. We have 2.Length of Ownership: < 1 year
9 months ago
Answer:
The gate is nice and heavy and our dog hasn't been able to move it, though to be fair, she hasn't tried very hard. It latches only at the top and requires just a finger to slide the bolt out. If you're coming from the other direction, however, you have to reach over the gate. When we come down the stairs, it's a little awkward to bend over and reach the latch. It closes easily behind you.Length of Ownership: < 1 year
8 months ago
Answer:
The gate latches at the top only. It is very easy to open even with stuff in your hands. It is a slide type latch. This is a heavy metal gate so your Yorkie will not be able to push it open at the bottom. I have a Yorkie also. He is a jumper and climber. He can not jump over this gate or climb it. This gate is heavy so your dog will not be able to push it out of the way. It also has rubber on the bottom so it does not slide on hard wood floors easily. Also the door closes automaticlly and latches so you don't have to worry about your Yorkie pushing it open if you forget to latch it.Length of Ownership: < 1 year
8 months ago
Answer:
you need at least one free hand to operate the latch. it's a button you push in and heavy enough so it would be difficult for a dog to escape7 months ago
Answer:
Latch is only on top and would require one hand to operate if you have it fully closed. I have a yorke and a jack russell and they have never pushed it. I have two of these gates. Love them.6 months ago
Answer:
I find the latch very easy to open- there is only one latch at the top of the gate so no stooping required. I doubt that a Yorkie will be capable of moving this gate.
