Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this Pet Gate Wonderful product, high quality and stylish. Keeps my pets off the carpet and the bronze finish blends nicely with the decor. This is the fourth gate of this type I have bought from Frontgate for myself and family members; they are great!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Spot On Pet Gate I was having trouble containing my 70 pound half pit/half heeler to the kitchen while I was at work. It seems she just did not like the mailman and would barrel through the little white gate I had, causing chaos. I was careful to read the helpful reviews about this gate and am so glad I ordered it. It is much taller and she doesn't even try to go through or over it. It must be intimidating to her due to how tall it is. Anyway, it works! Not only that but it is darn cute. It looks like a little mini-screen door to me and it is substantially built. Yes, a very small dog or puppy could get through the sides; however, it would have to be a very small dog (extremely tiny.) I am very happy with this purchase. It also arrived in a timely manner and was a breeze to install.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love my new dog gate!!! This is the third one that I have ordered, and I love them! We have a formal entry foyer and these gates are beautiful and do the job of keeping two small dogs blocked out. Easy assembly and so pretty.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Quality!!! We wanted to be able to block off a room and in looking for something that looked nice in our Victorian home. I took a chance and purchased this gate. When it arrived the box was heavy and when I opened it, it exceeded my expectations. The gate is beautiful. I am actually going to purchase the smaller one!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Purchase I ordered 2 of these gates to keep my dogs from wandering around the whole house. They look great and are super efficient! They are free-standing (so no drilling), sturdy (my dogs cannot knock them over or jump over them) and look amazing! I would recommend these to anyone looking for a decorative and functional, supportive gate.

Can this gate be mounted on wall?

I have used several tension-mount gates and I'm done with them. I need one I can mount on wall. Please advise. Thank you.
Asked by: Elphie
Yes, this mounts to the walls. It is very secure with the added tension pushing into the mounts.

How secure is the latching mechanism?

Can you tell me where the latch is located, and how it works? My 18 lb French bulldog/pug mix has escaped from another pen I have that has a latching mechanism that opens by lightly lifting and pushing or pulling the gate door.
Asked by: avalonlight
The last is at the very top of the gate. It is very convenient and you simply slide the lever smoothly back to open it. I don't see how an 18 pound dog could reach it in any way to dislodge it.

Would this product work as a baby gate? We want to block our crawling baby from the cat food & litter area, but not block the cats.

I would be wary of a crawling baby or toddler getting their head stuck in the cat door....

How well does the gate fold up when it needs to be stored?

Asked by: dogsrgreat
It does not fold but very easy to assemble like 5 to 10 min max so you could just take it apart but it would still be big but would store flat then.

Is the bottom of the gate padded. If not would little floor protector pads work on the bottom? Our previous gate scratched our hard wood floor.

Asked by: dogsrgreat
There are pads on the bottom of this gate. They are not felt but I have not had a problem with any scratching on my hardwoods that are super soft. I did put felt pads on the bottom but it made it easier for the dogs to push gate out of the way

How does the gate attach to the wall or is this a freestanding piece heavy enough to withstand the force if a do jumping on it?

Would like some further safety info
Asked by: DRRD
This gate is free standing as shown on the picture. It's pretty sturdy but then again, we don't have a dog that tries to jump over it. The gate can be reinforced to the wall with a piece of wood but I think it would have to be a pretty big dog to knock it over. Hopefully that helps.

I want to use this at base of stairs to keep my older Weimaraner from going up, he's 85 lb. and my floors are marble. Will this work? Will it slide?

Asked by: Aeschultz
The gate has rubber foot pads under steel legs. Doesn't slide easily. Doesn't knock over easily, either. Many large dogs are wise enough to try to jump over, push or pull over. Yours may be that smart too.

Can I put two of these together?

We have a space that is 135 inches that we are trying to keep our dogs out of? Looking for something that would work.
Asked by: TDorito
There is no way to support extensions other than the original side bar. You would probably dull the finish by drilling on your own. I would also imagine anything over 15 pounds charging it would damage both the pet and flooring.

can it be adjusted to lower width?

I have an opening that is 53 inches. Is there a way to configure it to be less than 55 inches? I need the taller gate (34") vs. the 22 inch to keep our 80 lb. golden retriever out of the living room, but the opening to that room is 53".
Asked by: bayareamom
No. This is a rigid construction that only comes in a few pieces. The long piece overlaps the gate frame and screw holes are on 2-inch centers holding them together. As described below, this is a fixed limitation so if you need something more narrow you need a different product. "Expands in 2" increments from 55" to 68-1/2" wide". Since it is free-standing, you could consider just placing it just beyond your opening, but a strong 80-lb dog could feasibly just shove the entire gate frame until they can go around it. Might need to put weights on the feet to prevent this.

Keep door open when not using it. Only nerd it closed when I'm not at home. Thank you

We keep the door open by placing a weight in front of it, whenever we're letting our fur kids wander, which isn't often.

How wide are the slats on the sides? I have a 2 pound escape artist and need small slats.

Asked by: Squirrelfriend
The main bars are only 1/2" apart, so it would just depend how far out the tension screws need to be to fit your opening. That would likely be the widest gap.

What width opening does this fit?

The description on the web page states "Easily installs in doorways that are 33.5"-37.5" wide", but the assembly instructions state "This product fits opening from 32.5''to 36.5''wide.Do not place the product outside this range." My opening is 37.0" wide.
Asked by: Elleanor
Our doorway is 40.75" wide. We built 2 columns our of framing studs trimmed with moulding and painted to match the other trim on our house. These allowed for a solid installation and helped full the gaps on the sides, because we have small dogs that are escape artists, plus they made the already beautiful gate look even more custom. Wish the website had an option to post photos...sorry!

Is it possible to purchase expand

Is it possible to purchase additional side piece to attach to expand to 45 inches wide. Would it work if I bought 2 gates and used pieces from 2nd one? Thank you Ilene
Asked by: iklein1
There are no side pieces available, and it's really almost all one piece, vs. needing assembly, so there wouldn't be an easy way to take anything off of a 2nd one - it's far too sturdy! How wide are the side panels? I see that the sides are 17 3/4 deep, but I believe that is the length of the foot, not the width of the panel.

The side panels of the 22"H Free-standing Steel Mesh Pet Gate Barrier are each 10" not including the feet.

Can this gate be used outdoors as well?

Asked by: MissDaisy
If you live out west where it is dry (So Cal, Nev, Arizona), you might be ok (it might get too hot in the direct sun though!), otherwise I would think the metal would corrode eventually from the moisture.

Can this gate be used on stairs

I have several cats and I want to keep them from going upstairs in my home.
Asked by: Chloe4631
The gate has to be mounted correctly before the latch will stay closed. If you can create enough tension using a stair rung and the wall, (or whatever you will be attaching it to) then I think it would be perfect!

Will this gate fit a 42" opening?

With many pet gates I've found that they won't fit odd length openings, and I'm very keen on this one. However I'm worried it won't fit since there isn't any information listed on how it expands. Will this fit a 42" doorway? Thank you!

Can the cat door be secured so a dog cannot push it open?

Asked by: AussieMom
I was thinking of using the twist tie that came with the gate to secure the cat door. Twist and cut short on the outside to prevent pet scrathes... I think my cat might learn to play with the lever and simply lift it up and don't trust just that latch. Give that a try!

It is just a lever to open and shut the cat door, you can do it with one hand.
