34"H Expandable Free-standing Steel Mesh Pet Gate is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 956.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice We purchased this for our new home to keep our two 15 year old cats from going to our second floor. This has worked good so far. I think one cat was able to sneak through the side bar one time - but it is a very attractive addition for our new home.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Looks nice, sturdy Looks nice, not like most dog or baby gates. It's also very sturdy. I was not able to find one large enough for the opening I was trying to block off. It looks nice, too - a plus since its its the entryway and the first thing people see entering the house. Makes a nice impression.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Waaat? A gate that is tall AND tough enough? Why yes!...a gate that is TALL and TOUGH ENOUGH for your most determined pack member! It is made of lightweight but durable metal with the strongest mesh I have ever seen. The design is also beautiful and it is useful even when one hand is full. I double dog dare you to find a better and more reliable gate at any price! You can even close doors to a room WITHOUT moving the gate! WOW!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great dog barrier This dog barrier is quite attractive. It is extremely simple to assemble. However, I did not attach the two sides at the center, so they can be put at right angles to block a hall and door or straight across to only block the door. These pieces are very sturdy and can stand alone. This is the short version so would not prevent a "jumper" from going over the top, but my small dogs don't jump up. I am extremely happy with this purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it! gorgeous The gate looks even better in person and I had already fell in love with the picture. I'm very happy with it, I have three yorkies and they can no longer attack the front door and my guest as they walk in the house. I recommend this gate. My neighbor put it together in minutes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I have tried many others and this beats them all This gate is great for small and large pets and is very beautiful also. It is not just a piece of plastic or wood that your pet can chew through. Not only sturdy but very elegant in appearance. It is of superior quality..You will not be disappointed . Love the little door for my tiny dog.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what I needed! I searched for this gate for a while and decided this was the one for me. It works perfect. Keeps my small dog away from the area of the home I do not want her in and is easy to move.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Pet gate I love my purchase because this is the 3rd gate I purchased for our puppy who is very active. The 2 previous ones I bought are wooden bi-folds and he knocked them down easily. One time, he knocked one down and toppled on top of him which send him shrieking in pain, maybe. (my poor dog). This iron mesh gate from FG is now very safe for him. It has good base support that will not topple and the swinging sides (that folds when not in use)are very secured when opened- he will not be able to open with his paws. The adjustable feature makes it so useful to use on different sizes of opening until its maximum length, of course. Love it! especially the design which blended in with our Tuscan interior.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Pleased Very pleased with this well-made door. It's attractive and sturdy and allows the cats access to areas where the dogs are not permitted. I especially like the height and how easy it is to open the latch, even with an armful of laundry.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice Gate Easy assembly, does what it's supposed to. We have it at the base of our stairs at the moment and it keeps our little Yorky from using the stairs until we get a banister. :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent and elegant Gate This gate is perfect and fits in the house as a very high quality item not just some cheap looking plastic gate. Easy to put together works perfect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this Gate! I am a first time dog owner and the thought of our new addition tearing up our beautiful home was of great concern. This gate is not only elegant but our puppy is safely contained until our family finds the time to supervise his romps though our home.Easy to install, damage free to our walls and the little door is a bonus! It is impenetrable to his clawing and high enough to thwart his escape attempts. Perfect. Purchase it. You will not be disappointed!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Did the job and then some so we bought another This gate is nice looking and does a great job corralling pets while allowing people to pass easily. We have an open floor plan, as many people do, and it kept my daughters Doberman out of the living room when they visited. Because it's free standing you can move it to wherever it's needed. We've discovered that it even contains our two older cats, so we bought a second one. I don't think it would stop younger or more athletic cats, but if you have a problem feline, this might be the miracle you've been looking for!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Attractive Gate This gate is very well made and heavy. It's also very attractive and easy to operate with one hand. We also made it practical when we wanted it to stay open by placing a decorative cord we found at a fabric shop around a wood column and railing it's next to and sliding the cord down around the closure mechanism. Works great. Our dog has always respected fences and gates even though he has the ability to easily jump over them. However, I believe a large dog (70 lbs. or more - ours is 30) who doesn't have that respect could easily knock the gate over if it wasn't anchored. But, we are very pleased with the product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful & Quality Very nice sturdy gate! It is visually appealing as well. Looks more like a part of the room decor. Keeps our dog out of the living room area when we are away; She won't go near it. Perfect for small dogs. Worth the pricey investment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Pet gate This gate is great! Fits in nicely with decor. Has a "door" that allows people to pass through without climbing over the gate. Even adjusted it to allow the cat to walk through one side. Good for wide openings. Very stable and doesn't tip even when my 50 lb dog gets excited and too close. My husband was opposed to a gate but actually like this one. Also, easy to assemble.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Attractive This is an attractive alternative to the typical dog gate. I purchased this gate for a little wider than standard doorway to my living room. Blends well with decor.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Blends Well With Decor I purchased this dog gate for the den of my home that happens to have an extra wide doorway. Because I have two small dogs that always seem to be sneaking into this room when I'm not looking, I knew I needed a gate that would be in use and visible 24/7. If you are looking for an attractive dog gate, as opposed to the typical dog gates you see with most pet outlets, I would highly recommend this item. Also, because it's freestanding, it's easy to just move one side of gate a few inches to allow my dogs access when I want to.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great solid gate! This gate is well built and solid! I've owned many gates over the years. My blue Doberman is energetic and a big lummox, so she can often take down a flimsy gate with the push of her paw. This one not at all! I really love this gate if you haven't gotten the jest as yet! Only one thing would make it better was if (it came in white or other colors). Even though it's beautiful with a bronze finish, it also makes it stand out like a sore thumb, against the white walls of the hall.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from GREAT gate for big dog If you thought this gate wouldn't contain a large dog, put your mind at ease (within reason that is#. This gate contains our 115lb Cane Corso from leaving the family room. She has on occasion jumped up against the gate when instructed to and the gate remained intact. If she really needed to I'm sure she could topple it over #though it'd be tough), but I can safely go put laundry away and come back 20 mins later and she's laying next to it. Great product. It has a great décor to it. It's sturdy....has a good weight to it and I LOVE the flexibility of the span it covers. I'm ordering another for our new house. Thx Frontgate.

gate latch

is the gate latch easy to operate with your hands full? does it lock top and bottom? And does the latch operate both or do you have to stoop down to unlatch the bottom? Is the gate easy to scoot if the dog tries to push it? Our little Yorkie often moves the gate we have now, so we are looking for a heavier one.
Asked by: Cricketsmomma
I find the latch very easy to open- there is only one latch at the top of the gate so no stooping required. I doubt that a Yorkie will be capable of moving this gate. It is very sturdy metal construction. We have a lab/basset hound mix puppy who currently weighs about 25 lbs.

can the gate go on the other side (right)

Asked by: Anonymous
No. You would have to turn the whole gate around to get the door on the Right side. Depending on your opening it could be done. The back side of the gate is not ugly. It is just not as finished as the front side.

I want to use this gate at the top of the stairs, has anyone used at top of stairs without wall for it to lean against?

Asked by: tmag
We installed ours on the top of some stairs and to make it very stable, I cut two blocks of wood (4" X 4" X 7" L) to slide under the legs and this made the fully opened gate extremely strong. I stained them brown to match the stairs and they are almost invisible beneath the metal legs. Even opening and closing the door is easier and can be done with one hand now.

Will my energetic strong yorkie be able to push it aside to wiggle out the side?

Also, I see comments about it being heavy...I will be pushing it aside or sliding it smaller... when he is allowed into the other rooms. Is that easy to do on a daily basis? Love the look!
Asked by: Bailey2
In general, he should not be able to push it. It's pretty sturdy and heavy. However, if the gate doesn't fit the opening properly, and leaves inches open, or if you haven't used the screws to hold the end pieces securely in place, he could maybe wiggle those and snake through. You can't slide them smaller. The gate is screwed together into the configuration you need for your opening. The pieces don't 'slide'. You'd just have to lift the unit and move it aside. I size my gates so that the side pieces are inside the opening, not in front of the opening (as in the picture)... then my dog can't push or work it open.
