34-inch Expanding Tension Mount Pet Gate is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 160.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect! This gate is absolutely gorgeous and very sturdy. The brushed bronze is stunning and is miles away from the other, not even cheaper, plastic gates available. Instead, it seems like it belongs in your home. Putting it together/up was incredibly easy. It closes behind you and has an extra lock on the gate door as well (if you ever need to use it). It does take some time to remember that there is a bottom bar. When I first got it, I'd trip sometimes, but it's invaluable since it keeps the gate closed securely. I definitely recommend this product!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pet Gate This is a dual review: First for the pet gate and the other for Frontgate. The gate is perfect fit to our home, plus quality with ease of use. Its not just a pet gate but a décor statement as well! Bonus! We had an issue with opening mechanics of the gate when we first received it. I called customer support and after a few steps they sent us a replacement. The replacement works perfectly. Doing business with Frontgate was pleasant and our issue was resolved quickly. This is the 2nd pet gate we have purchased with Frontgate and I have been extremely pleased with both of them. Frontgate has me for a lifetime customer.

My opening is 42.33" wide. Will this gate work?

Asked by: suwaneefamilyof4
Thank you for your interest in the 34-inch Expanding Tension Mount Pet Gate. The extra large size only extends to 42" W which will not work in an opening the is 42.33"W.

How does the bottom of the gate release to open the door?

For the two top buttons, the top one is on a spring and releases one of the sliding latches and the lower one is not on a spring release and releases the other sliding latch. Is that correct? Once I release the two buttons, the top is open but the vertical base pin is still inserted and restricts me from opening the door unless I manually pull up on the door itself. Is that the correct function or should the gate be able to be opened by simply sliding over the two top buttons and swinging the door open?
Asked by: superboo
Thank you for your interest in the 34-inch Expanding Tension Mount Pet Gate. To open this gate you need to push release and lift up.

What width does the 34 inch high expandable gate go to?

I need 56-58 inches in width!
Asked by: JEV55
I have a 35 inch opening and had to use wood blocks to extend this version.. I did wish it came with an optional extender panel, but no it does not... 33" is about how safely you can extend and keep the rigid frame. I have the full size model as well, very good quality!

Side opening width?

I would like to mount it with enough room to let my cat through but not the dog. How wide can the side gaps get? (Is 3 inches the max)
Asked by: Catsanddogs
Good question. I am thinking somewhere around 4inches maybe. Not much more than that. It depends too how wide your door opening is that your putting it in. So can't give an exact #. But my guess is no more than 5 inches. Hope that helps some.

Does the gate close automatically and if so, is there a way for it to remain open?

Asked by: ljensen
Yes it pulls up to open and can be left open by not shutting it tightly. But since it opens in or out, it's best to open it inwards then your pet can't push through it, its a great feature.

I need two gates: one for a 32-inch space, one for a 40-inch one. Will this gate fit for both spots? Are the expanders included with the gate?

Asked by: tkaprowy
EXPANDERS WERE NOT INCLUDED WHEN I PURCHASED THIS GATE OVERB 6 YRS AGO. I DO NOT THINK IT WILL GO TO 40IN, BUT I COULD BE WRONG. IT SHOULD SAY WHAT THE DIMENSIONS ARE FOR EXPANSION ON THE WEBSITE, NO?

Does anyone sell a 60" wide tension mounted gate?

Our dog is 90 lbs, and we need to keep him in the kitchen - my husband doesn't like the freestanding gate with the decorative filagree on it. We don't want to screw one to the wall.

Thank you for your interest in the 34-inch Expanding Tension Mount Pet Gate. Unfortunately, we do not currently carry a tension mount pet gate that is 60"W. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause

How large is the opening in the gate itself??

I know this will fit my doorframe but I want to know how wide the opening of the gate is and if there are any pieces that stick out into the opening? (like the latch)
Asked by: dolfinz42
We appreciate your interest in this item. The opening on this gate measures 26"W x 34"H. The latch does not stick out from the gate as it slides from side to side.

What hardware is used to add extra panel?

I bought this a few years ago (still looks great!) and now have the need to put in the extension piece. I have the gate section, but I don't know what hardware (dowels? Bolts?) I am looking for in my toolbox... can't recall what came with it and I failed to label it. Thanks!

Which pet gate should I buy to fit a 45" and a 48" opening?

Asked by: Snowgirl
Thank you for your interest in Frontgate. Regrettably, none of the tension-mount gates will cover an opening of 45-48" width. For an opening this wide, you would need a free-standing gate. Some of the free-standing gates that would cover this width would include: Extra-wide Freestanding Steel Mesh Barrier (42958) Extra-wide 20"H Freestanding Barrier (30191) 34"H Expandable Free-standing Mesh Pet Gate (42955)

Can this gate be mounted to the door frame. not used as a pressure gate.

Asked by: bela
No, this is a pressure gate. However you might look at the free standing gate they carry If you only need the short version ( 20" high) there is a model that stands measuring 27" and extends to 40". I have both sizes of freestanding gates and they are very sturdy!

Gate width

I need two gates, both 36-42 inches high, but around 48 inches wide. Nothing I see on your site is close. do you have anything else or any way to modify to a wider or narrower width
Asked by: 5gen
I have the 34" expanding black iron gate and used small blocks on one side to "extend" to 39" but I don't suggest going any bigger. The free standing model that matches, can only adapt down to 53" but if you have "open space" like at the end of stairs... you could adapt this model as I did. Both are great quality and look good!

Can this gate be mounted to the door frame?

Asked by: bela
The (4) disc's which offer the pressure points (top/bottom) of contact on the gate are 2" in diameter. If this space is available on the door frame I feel the gate is a fit for you. I have mine at a opening which has no door, but the wall space is 4 inches, no problem.

Will it fit a 54" opening

I'm buying 3 gates and would like to use same design for all three.
Asked by: LarryW
Thank you for your interest in the 34-inch Expanding Tension Mount Pet Gate. This gate expands from 28-1/2" - 33"W and the Extra-Wide expands from 28-1/2" - 42" W. We do not have a tension-mount gate that expands up to 54", you may want to look at our free-standing pet barriers as we offer some that expand up to 70"W.

Will this gate 30193 fit my 34 inch opening by pulling out the tension rods?

Does the 33 inch width of the gate include the pull out tension rods on the sides or does it include just the width of the gate not including the width of the tension rods? If the gate itself is 33 inches would pulling out the tension rods would make it fit. in my 34 inch opening?
Asked by: Scott14
I have a 35"opening, and found that 33" was this gates absolute limit holding the frame rigid in place. I used a wood block top and bottom keeping the gate tight, fully operational and in place just fine.

I love the larger gate since I had a 68" opening. I would like the "matching" gate, but my opening is 37"... I would prefer to have a larger gate so it could adapt to other doorways instead of installing a "spacer" of wood to make this fit as is. Love this product, so superior!

I have a 34 inch opening. How much space would I have between each side of the door jam. We have a puppy that is only 3.1 lbs at this moment.

Asked by: maryjo0715
Pending Moderation Thank you for your interest in the 34-inch Extra Wide Tension Mount Pet Gate. The tension mounts expand leaving 1"- 3" space on the sides of the gate. A 34" opening will require one of the included extension panels be attached to the gate, and the space on the each side of the gate will be approximately 2".
