34-inch Expanding Tension Mount Pet Gate 4.7 5 155 162
Stylish Gate This gate is perfect! It is a beautiful color, great finish and adds some style to the entry. It is the perfect height for a larger dog. I love how the gate fits and looks in my family room. VERY pleased with this purchase October 3, 2014
Nice high quality pet gate I replaced a pet gate that was actually a baby gate to keep my dog on the deck instead of getting into the fenceless front yard. The baby gate was fine but it was white and the handle ended up breaking in my hands during the cold weather. The Frontgate gate is not really meant to be outdoors so it will be interesting to see how it holds up. It is a nice quality, I really like the antique iron look and it closes very solidly behind me without having to be closed each time like I had to with the previous gate. September 24, 2014
Pet Gate Great design, goes with decor, easy to use, easy to mount. The price and quality are great selling points. September 17, 2014
Gorgeous Gates I purchased this gate, and also one of the free-standing models a few months ago. I couldn't be happier. Because they're expandable, both gates can easitly be used in various places in my home and are an attractive addition to any room. September 29, 2014
Beautiful Gate! I purchased two gates to keep pets out of certain rooms in our home. I compared prices with leading pet stores and was pleased to find out these gates were not only prettier, but cheaper than the leading local pet store. These gates are so sturdy & well made. They are a lovely addition to our decor as well! July 29, 2014
good gate sturdy, solid, easy to install. Much better than the mesh gate that I bought at the same time to fill a bigger doorway. June 7, 2014
Stylish High Quality Since installing (fairly easy installation) our 34" Expanding Tension Pet Gate for our first dog, we've received compliments from our guests. Compliments like, "Wow! That's a fancy dog gate." And, "That doesn't even look like a dog gate - it's nice!" We didn't want the 'baby-gate-turned-dog-gate' look, so Frontgate's alternative was perfect. Our new 40 pound Cairin Terrier has put her front paws on it and it's as sturdy as can be; although she has managed to deeply scratch it (before her nails were trimmed) and chew a piece of the top plastic off. Otherwise, it's in perfect condition. It's convenient how the gate door swings in and out. If it had a way to stay open when not in use, that would make it almost perfect. Offering various finishes would be nice (we would've chosen a silver finish). The gate's price is worth it's value to protect the house by restricting our dog's access when needed, while looking classy. May 27, 2014
Good looking and sturdy This gate was not my first choice but I needed matching gates for different size openings and this was the only model that would work for us. It is sturdy, set it up in 15 - 20 minutes, lots of protecting packing material to remove. I am getting used to the "unlatching" process, not easy to do with full hands. I had a party recently and the guests remarked on it's good looks but thought the opening process was a little awkward. We have only had the gates for 2 weeks but it does appear to be durable. We also bought the low gate and I appreciate the ability to just step over it. May 18, 2014

My baseboard molding is 2.5 inches high and 1 inch deep. In order to install this, two criteria must be met:
1) Do the bottom mounts set against the walll no higher than 2.25 inches?
2) Because the top tension mounts will each be extended close to 1 inch wider than the bottom, will the gate be stable?

Thank you for your interest in Frontgate. The bottom mounts are 1.5" diameter and will be flush with the bottom of the gate, so they will not be higher than 2.25". The gate should maintain stability even though the top mounts will be extended further than the bottom mounts.

Thank you for your interest in Frontgate. Regrettably, none of the tension-mount gates will cover an opening of 45-48" width. For an opening this wide, you would need a free-standing gate. Some of the free-standing gates that would cover this width would include:
Extra-wide Freestanding Steel Mesh Barrier (42958)
Extra-wide 20"H Freestanding Barrier (30191)
34"H Expandable Free-standing Mesh Pet Gate (42955)

We do not have a tension-mount gate that expands up to 54", you may want to look at our free-standing pet barriers as we offer some that expand up to 70"W.

No, this is a pressure gate. However you might look at the free standing gate they carry If you only need the short version ( 20" high) there is a model that stands measuring 27" and extends to 40". I have both sizes of freestanding gates and they are very sturdy!

The (4) disc's which offer the pressure points (top/bottom) of contact on the gate are 2" in diameter. If this space is available on the door frame I feel the gate is a fit for you. I have mine at a opening which has no door, but the wall space is 4 inches, no problem.

I have the 34" expanding black iron gate and used small blocks on one side to "extend" to 39" but I don't suggest going any bigger. The free standing model that matches, can only adapt down to 53" but if you have "open space" like at the end of stairs... you could adapt this model as I did. Both are great quality and look good!

Answer:
I have a 35" opening and had to use wood blocks to extend. Good quality, but 33 is about the full span to keep the rigid frame. The other freestanding might be too large for you.

My opening is 47" and has no door frame. It is open area. Will this expand that far? If not, what product do you have that would work?

We appreciate your interest in this item. Unfortunately, this pet gate is only able to accommodate openings between 28-41 inches. We do offer our 22"H Expandable Mesh Pet Gate, item 42957, which can adjust to fit openings between 32-47 inches.
