Better pet gate
In the end, this is a great-looking gate that actually matches our staircase.
At first, I was completely thrown by how it goes together, and I still don't love the layout. But, it's much better than wooden gates we've had in the past, and there is no way our clever dogs will get this one open!

Dogs hate it . . . I LOVE IT ! !
My two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels grew big enough from puppyhood to finally at will scale the 21 inch wooden gate I used to keep them contained in the kitchen since they arrived here when they were two months old (just a matter of time!). After they destroyed five pairs of my wife's shoes, two computer headsets, one TV remote control and lots of small, miscellaneous items (including furniture legs and the usual things puppies love to chew on, not to mention bad toilet habits on the wall to wall carpeting), I finally gave in and accepted that they were not, in truth, old enough/mature enough to behave outside of the kitchen yet. . . so, I bought a 36 inch Freestanding Pet Barrier with Gate from Frontgate . . . all is peaceful and under control once again as they are allowed into the rest of the house when we allow them to be, not anytime they decide to launch over the old gate and destroy something new that day. This, of course, does not make Cole and Misu very happy, but it makes me grin from ear to ear . . . I have regained control of the house once again until such time that they get big enough to scale this new gate (HA! Cavalier's?? Never happen!)
Great quality, strong, good looking gate . . . fits in to our decor and looks great while keeping Bonnie and Clyde from doing what they seem to enjoy so much . . . being 9 month old pups!
Thanks, Frontgate! Well done!

Pretty but ineffectual
Gate arrived in a timely manner & was easy to put together. Very nice looking but, unfortunately, doesn't contain my three dogs. Not sure who the escape artist is (Lab, Min Pin or Jack Russell) but they are able to move the gate. Tried putting it on carpeting and hardwood and bracing/weighting it with chairs and weights to no avail. I am considering bolting it to the wall since I have already thrown away the packaging and can't return it. If your dog is deterred by the physical presence of a gate, this may work for you.

Not just for Dogs
I purchased this gate to keep my three cats from going into the room where I keep my baby grand piano. This gate is perfect! I also live in a bungalow style house and many people have asked if the gate came with the house since it blends so well with the decor.

Classy Solution to My Doggie Problem
After several pedestrian and ineffective attempts to contain my very large, very rambunctious puppy to the family room area of my home, I found the perfect solution with your freestanding 36" Pet Barrier with Gate. It was easy to put together, the gate is simple to use, and the oversized pup doesn't even try to jump it! Most importantly, it provides a classy, not utilitarian, look. So glad I found Frontgate and its superior products!

Not Sturdy enough
The side rails that support the free-standing nature of the gate can be easily opened by my 20 lb tibetan terrior. They should somehow lock in place. As a result it is not satisfactory for our purpose of keeping the dog out of the living room.

BEAUTIFUL PET GATE
I was previously using a child closure to stop the dogs from getting into the rest of the house, but these gates do the job and better. I purchased two so that together they would cover the entire opening of the family room. The pass through gates are easy to use and the look is beautiful. My only wish was that they came in really long lengths so that it would be one continued barrier.

Good quality -
Nice, sturdy and attractive at a decent price.
Easy to assemble, and gate works well. No disappointments here.
Will serve it's intended temporary purpose until puppy is house broken.

Awesome
This gate is awesome. I used to have a cheap (material wise, but cost wise they weren't cheap) wood and plastic gate. The area I need it for is wide so my first gate was never wide enough and I had to improvise to extend it. It fell apart and was terrible. Now my new gate is freestanding and easy to move. The price was great and totally worth it. It is sturdy and classy. I just wish they made a narrower one for another area I need to gate. Get it! You won't be sorry.

Great product
I bought two pet gates. They assembled easily, are top quality and will do the job of containing a German Shepherd who has not yet arrived.

Does the Trick
bought this pet gate to keep new puppy in one area of the house w/o limiting access to everyone else. Having a gate that can open is very helpful, and the iron still keeps the house looking nice. The new puppy is the only one not happy with our new purchase but is adjusting very well.

Not worth the price
This gate looks ok but it's not worth the price! It also requires assembly
The only positive to this was they send you a prepaid return label except you have to pay for UPS to come pick it up from your house!

Excellent gate
We purchased this pet gate to keep our puppy contained in the family room. The gate is sturdy and attractive. I am very pleased with the item. I added a couple of extra cushions to protect the doorway from scratches from the sides, as well as one on the door so it won't scratch my wood door frame.

Nicest I have seen one or 2 flaws
I had been wanting to purchase this gate since I bought my house 6 months ago. It was on sale recently and I jumped on it. You won't find a nicer gate on any pet website. Only real issue i had was the spring loaded latch on the gate itself. You have to make sure each end of the gate is straight and not angled at all but even then it seems like the latch is a tad to long to close properly when it hits the gate. It's supposed to hit the angled metal on the gate and push the latch backwards. I found it locking at the bottom which is a different mechanism, but the top the latch wouldn't hit the angled metal on the gate because it was to long and wouldn't hit the angled piece on the other side. I took off the panel to the latch(which is nice that you can actually do that.) And put a small screw through the latch (it's plastic ) to keep the latch from sticking out as far. The gate works perfectly now. My dogs hate it. =)

Keeps them close but not in the way...
This pet barrier is great! Very attractive and easily moved. It allows me to keep my dogs at a distance while I answer the door. Prior to this barrier I would have to hold them by the collar and shushhh them until they stopped barking! We are working on their manners, but, until we have completed that task, this barrier gets the job done.

Good Stand Alone Gate
My family needed to block off 2 entrances to our kitchen and we used for the larger one. It's by far the most attractive gate we found and it works very well. The door feature is wonderful and it's a good purchase. The only cons are that it doesn't have anyway to really "stay put" since it's stand alone.

Excellent Product
The Pet Barrier Gate is beautiful, easy to install. Other gates that I saw were more expensive, and cheap looking. Shipping was unbelievably fast, I got it within 4 days instead of 10.

Good looking, sturdy gate
This gate is very nice looking as compared to other "cheap" plastic gates. It's easy to assemble and is pretty sturdy as well. It's holding my 12 week old Golden "in" nicely but the idea is that it'll continue to be sufficient for when he's full grown. I'm pretty confident that it will work fine. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I wish it was built such that the door would swing open both ways. I purchased another matching exanding gate that fits in a standard doorway and the door on that swings both ways. It's more convenient to use that way.

A Quality Product
The barrier arrived in good condition and was easy to assemble. The gate latches securely and works freely. The barrier is very stable and has a nice finish, it is a good value for the money.

36' Free standing Pet barrier with gate
We love this pet barrier. It is very heavy with a touch of class. You can adjust it to your needs or just use the prefabricated holes. This is better than ever expected.

Dog Gate
Excellent Purchase for our needs. Our dogs can no longer access our Living/Dining Room and ruin our rugs.

Now happy with gate
After a second attempt, the gate is finally together and we are happy with it. First attempt had a wrong part!!!

how secure is the latch on the gate?
I'm wondering if the latch is secure enough to prevent a child from accidently opening the gate for the dog? Can you give a little more detail on how you open the latch (magnetic, squeeze and pull up, etc)? thank you!

Need a gate like this 50" wide. Do you have anything like this?

Answer:
Unfortunately there is no barrier 34" or taller that is capable of being exactly 50" wide. The 34' high, free standing barrier is 55' at it's shortest width and the 36" high, free standing barrier is 54" at it's shortest. You could use either one but have the side support pieces outside the opening. If you look closely at the pictures of both barriers you will see an example of how that would work. That would make the barrier stick out into the area outside your opening about 10-17".Length of Ownership: < 1 year

Answer:
This gate expands to much wider than 50", as shown in the product description - my opening is wider than the 50" and works great!3 months, 2 weeks ago
