42"H Expandable Mesh Pet Gate is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 20.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect, Beautiful, Easy, Sturdy! Based on the majority of positive reviews and the photo of the gate, I ordered it, to keep 4 cats out of my bedroom while still having air flow. Perfect! It is tall enough to keep cats from jumping over; the "mesh" is not like door or window screen mesh, it's much sturdier, like a grate. Cats cannot ruin it with their claws. the space between the frame and gate is too small for anything larger than maybe a small rabbit to get through. It looks beautiful and allows your space to look and feel larger being able to see through it and see also the beautiful scroll work along the sides. Gate hinges open/close smoothly. Latch works very well. I removed a bedroom door to install the gate but doorway was too narrow, so I installed it just outside the door frame with tension against the narrow hallway walls. Works great!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from beautiful way to keep dogs safe and secure We love our 42'H Expandable Mesh pet gate, it has added to the beauty of our home and now we can keep our brindle boxer in the kitchen while we are out and about, and keep her out of the kitchen when we are cooking. Makes a great addition to a pet owners home, and we don't have to deal with hopping over gates, or putting them up and down each time we leave the house. This is perfect! Easy to install and great price!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful gate This gate is gorgeous and we received compliments galore. I only wish it came in a smaller size too. We have two doorways in our kitchen and had to buy completely different gates because of the dimentions. It would have been nice to have matching gates in the same room but both gates are lovely and keeping the rest of the house clean. We live on a farm and the dogs get pretty dirty so I only have the kitchen floor to clean up instead of the entire house. We also got gates for our wrap around porch to keep muddy dogs off and had to go to another company because we needed gates in white. Wish we could have used Frontgate for them too!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect gate Have 4 of these gates. That alone should indicate how wonderful they are! I have cats and wanted to restrict their access. Needed a gate tall enough to accomplish this. The gates are tall enough to totally stop access. They very attractive and a very nice addition. Having an easy to open door makes them ideal. Have to be sure to follow instructions for proper fit. Have one doorway too wide for the gate, but wanted it and made a wood frame so it would fit. Looks great!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Nice I needed a gate that I had to leave up all the time and therefore wanted something attractive and functional. This gate was a perfect fit. I receive complements from everyone who see its wondering where I purchased it from. It's also very functional - easy to use walk thru gate. It gets alot of use thru a busy doorway, and I have had no problems with it. I would recommend the purchase.

How wide are the strips at the side?

I would be buying this to contain 2 Persian cats who are about 6 pounds each. Would they be able to get through those side strips?
Asked by: bltrans
Depends on where it's installed. I installed mine in a narrow hallway just outside my doorway, not in it, so the door jam blocks some of the +- 3" available between the wall and gate frame. If your doorway is wide enough to install within the door jam, it's possible they could squeeze through, but that's the only place. The space between the frame and gate is only 1.75" wide and the space available for gate to open is only 1/8" wide. I think fluffy persians are not going to be able to squeeze themselves through a 3" space. :) I have 4 kitties. See my images uploaded on someone else's question. Look for "Tala."

Is the entire gate mesh lined?

I have two 3 LB dogs. They have been able to get thru other barred gates in a heartbeat. They are also jumpers. How large are the side bars -- and are they also covered? This is for a standard door opening. What would you suggest.
Asked by: tampawoman
The largest space may be 3" at best--between wall/door edge and gate frame. The space between gate frame and gate door is only 1.75" wide. The mesh is not lined. It's extremely sturdy - more like metal grating than mesh. This gate is too high for CATS to jump never mind little jumper doggies ;) Side bars are the same finish as the rest of the gate - a dark bronze finish over the metal. I think it would work for you. I uploaded 3 images with another question. Look for those reviews by "Tala."

Accessing the gate

While the gate is secured in place is there a door that you can open and walk through without having to take the gate down so one can walk between rooms?
Asked by: 2AustralianShepherds
Yes! and the hinges operate very smoothly. You do have to pay attention to which way it swings and which way you want to be able to see the design work--the design work is not on the same side as the hinges. Let's say you are walking toward it and the scroll work is facing you. The hinges would be on the backside on the left, so you would walk through the gate door with it opening from the right side in the direction you are headed. And you have to remember there is about a 1" lip along the bottom--or you'll stub your toe. ;) also, when you install, make sure it's standing straight, not angled, across the space, or the latch won't operate properly. But that's easy enough to see while you're winding on the tension. If your arms are full carrying things, it's a bit difficult because the gate door doesn't stay open on its own. You have to hold onto it to close so it doesn't slam.

How does the gate install? Does it bolt to the door frame, or is there a spring loaded mechanism?

Asked by: TKing
You can do either. If you have an unruly animal that may jump on the gate alot, you'll want to use the screws which hold a "socket" and "pad" to the wall and attach to the tension pads. But if your animal/s is mellow, using the tension pads alone should be enough. They are not spring-loaded. You keep screwing them and as you turn, the bolt comes out farther, which means you're in control the whole time how much tension you want on the 4 tension bolts against either the door jam or hall walls. I uploaded 3 photos on another question. Look for a review by "Tala."

Does it include Complimentary sockets like model 46128

I am trying to find out if the assembly directions are the same as model 46128, that has the dual entry. I just want to be sure it comes with the complimentary sockets. This model did not reference assembly instructions.
Asked by: DebbieGut
yes it does! screws, pads and sockets. But I found the tension alone to be sufficient for my mellow animals.
