Selecting & Copying files

How fast is miShare?
A typical song takes five to ten seconds to share, depending on the file sizes. A short home video in iPod format could be a half minute. miShare reads and writes at USB 2.0 Full-Speed for a real-world transfer rate of about 500K (0.50MB) per second.

I used miShare to copy files to an iPod. Where are they?
Check on the target iPod for a playlist called miShare Playlist. This playlist will contain songs or videos that do not employ digital rights management (DRM).
In some situations files are also copied to the target iPod's disk area. Look for a report of what happened on the target iPod in : Extras->Notes->miShareSummary

Source files	Location of Copied Files on Target iPod
Song, video, or playlists of songs or videos.	Available immediately in the Music or Video menus, and also in a music or video playlist called miShare Playlist. (miShare playlists are numbered if there is more than one.) Notes: (1) If the target iPod is set to automatically synchronize with iTunes, the files are also placed in folders called miShare Music or miShare Videos on the target iPod's disk area so you can add the files to your home iTunes at a later time. (2) If the target iPod cannot play videos, then any copied videos will only be copied to the disk area's miShare Videos folder.
Photos or photo albums	Photos are copied to miShare Session folder inside the miShare Photos Dropbox on the target iPod's disk area. (The miShare Session folders are numbered.)
DRM files	Songs or videos with DRM (some iTunes purchases, for example) are copied to miShare Music or miShare Video folder on the target iPod's disk area.

Music Playlist

How do I copy a group of songs, an album, an artist, or some other music playlist? First select the files for copying on the source iPod by making an On-The-Go Playlist. Tag the songs (or artists, albums or playlists) by bringing them up on the source iPod and holding the iPod's center button briefly until the title flashes. You can also view, edit, or clear the On-the-Go playlist on the source iPod. (To remove a single song from the On-The-Go playlist, select it in the playlist and hold down the Center button until the song title flashes.)
Once the files are tagged, you are ready to miShare. Connect the two iPods, switch miShare to music ( ), and press the miShare button when all of the lights turn green. Songs will appear on the target iPod in a playlist called miShare Playlist. If the On-The-Go playlist on the source iPod is empty then miShare will default to copying the single song that was last played on the source iPod.

Videos

How do I copy a video playlist?
Since you cannot make an On-The-Go Playlist for videos on the iPod, you must have a playlist already created called miShare Videos on the source iPod. If miShare Videos playlist does not exist, miShare will copy the last played video.
Tip: want to share a group of favorite family, net, or vacation videos? Keep them defined as a miShare Videos playlist on your iPod for miShare moments.

What happens when I copy videos to a non-video iPod?
Not all iPods support video playback. If the target iPod doesn't have video capability, then miShare will copy videos to the miShare Videos folder in the target iPod's disk area.

Photos

Where are the photos on the target iPod? Browse the iPod's disk area to find the miShare Photos Dropbox folder. After copying, consider deleting these files to free up iPod storage space. (See iPod Preferences in this FAQ for help accessing the iPod as an external drive.)

DRM

How do I authorize the copy of a DRM song or video on the target iPod?
The song or video will appear on the target iPod's disk area in a folder called miShare Music. You cannot play the song or video on the target iPod until it is authorized.The next time you sync your iPod to your computer, add the new files to iTunes by dragging them into iTunes where you can authorize or buy the locked files. Locked iTunes purchases can be authorized for more than one machine at a time, and the owner can also reset all authorizations. After copying, consider deleting these files to free up iPod storage space.

iPod Preferences

What happens when I copy a song or video to an iPod that is set to synchronize automatically with iTunes? Non-DRM files are available for playback immediately. To add the copied song to iTunes the next time your iPod is connected to the computer, browse the target iPod to the miShare Music or miShare Video folder to locate the copied files. (See FAQ #10 for help accessing the iPod as an external drive.) Then add those files by copying them to iTunes, and resync your iPod. After copying consider deleting these files to free up iPod storage space. You may also want to turn off iPod synchronization in iTunes.

How do I turn iPod synchronization on and off? Connect the iPod to a computer running iTunes, and the settings for the connected iPod will come up under iTunes. In the main Summary tab for the iPod, check or uncheck Manually manage music and be sure to apply changes if necessary. (In the separate Music tab you can also check specific playlists to sync.)
Tip: when the iPod is set to Manually manage music, you are also able to add music to an iPod from more than one computer; just drag-copy within iTunes to the iPod.

How do I enable my iPod for external disk use?
Connect the iPod to a computer running iTunes and Enable disk mode in the iTunes preferences for the iPod. The iPod should appear as another storage device on your Mac or PC, just like any other external USB drive.

Other Copying Questions

Are songs copied to miShare Playlist also copied to the disk area of the target iPod? Files are only copied to the miShare Music or miShare Videos folder in the disk area of the target iPod under certain conditions: if the source files are locked with DRM, the target iPod is set to be synchronized to iTunes, the target iPod is not a model that supports video playback, or miShare otherwise wants to maintain compatibility with different iPod models.

Is there any loss of file quality during a miShare copy? No. miShare maintains sound and video quality, making digital copies that are identical to the original.

Using miShare with iTunes purchases

miShare is a personal publishing device for sharing music, videos and photos, any time and anywhere. miShare strictly honors all digital rights management (DRM) including purchases from Apple's iTunes. miShare does not unlock DRM.
iTunes purchases can be authorized for multiple computers or iPods. Locked DRM files are copied to the disk area of the target iPod, for fresh authorization with a valid password.

miShare Quick Start Guide

miShare is a smart little handheld device for sharing files and playlists between iPods. No computer or cable is needed, and it's super easy to use. Plug in miShare or, once charged up:

1. Create an On-The-Go playlist of the songs you want to share on the source iPod. If there's no On-The-Go playlist, miShare will just grab the last-played song.
2. Turn on your miShare by sliding the switch to the music setting (all the way to the right) and connect the source iPod to the left-hand (source) side of your miShare.
3. Wait until miShare's arrow on the left-hand (source) is steady green, and then connect the target iPod to the right-hand (target) side of your miShare
4. When miShare's arrows & center button are green, press miShare's only button.Sharing is done when miShare is blinking green remove the iPods & enjoy! Check miShare Playlist on target iPod (and miShareSummary in Extras->Notes).
