Robotic Solar Breeze Pool Skimmer 4.1 5 15 15
Solar Breeze Pool Skimmer We bought the Solar Breeze to supplement our pool service so that we would have a clean pool by the time the weekend rolled around. We've had the cleaner about a month now and so far, love it, with a few exceptions. On the whole, it does a great job keeping the surface of the pool clean and is easy to set up and use. Cleaning the filter isn't bad at all. The one negative is that we have an irregular pool edge with boulders which come down about 3-5" off the surface of the water. The way the front is designed, for the first week or so, the Solar Breeze was pretty much continually caught under one or another of these boulders and couldn't seem to escape. We'd free it and within 10-15 minutes, it would be stuck again. We modified it slightly, putting a dowel standing upright on each front end, which bumps into the rocks before it gets caught and seems to be working OK now. The only exception is that it's gotten caught in the pool outlet a few times. Still, on the whole, it does exactly what we wanted--the pool has never looked cleaner! May 28, 2013
Ok for a while Had skimmer for three years. It has been back to the factory once and worked for less than a year after that. Now it doesn't work at all. While it worked, it was great but it doesn't have the longevity. June 24, 2014
Works great -- empty frequently! This little robot paddles along the pool surface, collecting debris as large as an avocado leaf and as small as a tiny speck of paint. It works impressively well, and is rather entertaining to watch while sipping a cool beverage in the back yard! When purchasing the Skimmer, I was concerned about its ability to navigate corners and walls, but it automatically reverses its direction sporadically, extracting itself from blockages. Also, the pool debris does not empty back out into the water when it reverses. The only thing that routinely causes trouble for the little Skimmer is the hose of our regular vacuum-style pool cleaner. A few small weights along the length of that hose solves that problem without compromising the performance of the pool cleaner. The Skimmer does need to be emptied frequently, at least once a week. When it is full, it no longer collects debris very well. Also, it is important to take out the filter completely and rinse it before putting it back into the Skimmer. The whole process takes about 5 minutes -- not a big deal. Overall, this is a great product, and I'm glad we saved up for it! June 24, 2012
It does work, collecting tray pops open too easily I've had this for about three weeks now. It does pick up a lot of floating debris and I have to manually skim the surface a LOT LESS than I used to. It won't completely eliminate manual skimming, though (my wife makes fun of me for spending several hundred dollars on this and still have to grab the skimming pole here and there). If your pool has a rim that extends slightly inward and over the water's surface, debris will tend to accumulate under there where the Breeze can't reach it. My only concern is that is feels a bit flimsy and the plastic body has scratches from the rounded bricks around the rim of our pool (so it looks like it's not very high quality plastic). My only real gripe is that the collecting tray at the bottom slides out way too easily and I sometimes find it open (but still attached to the Solar Breeze) with debris floating out of it. I may resort to securing it with a bangee cord. Also, be careful when you pick up the Breeze to take it out of the water; the tray may either come loose, or, if you don't keep the Solar Breeze level you risk dumping most of what it collected back in the pool (it happened more than a couple of times now, it's annoying)! I wish they installed some sort of locking mechanism to secure the tray in place and a one-way door flap to ensure that whatever is collected can't find its way back out. It would also be awesome if it came with a remote control so you could direct it to where the debris is floating (rather than hope it will get it in one of its trips). At this price, it would be justified to have this feature built in. Overall, I don't regret splurging on this. May 31, 2012
Nice gadget This solar skimmer is pretty cool. Much larger than I thought. We have an irregular shaped pool with rounded edges so it doesn't do a 100% job but does get a majority of things that blow into the pool and some finer things like grass clippings from my neighbors incessant weed eating and pollen. Love the fact it is solar and I don't have to mess with anything, literally! My pool is mostly clear. You need to empty the filters a couple of times a week and no floating thermometers! Otherwise it's a nice addition that is a great time saver. I only gave it a 4 rating because of the irregular shape of our pool. July 26, 2013
Love it! My husband asked for this for a Father's Day present. It's a pricey gift but worth it in how much time he can save vacuuming the pool. Our kids and my husband just love watching "Charlie" putz around the pool and when he gets stuck by the ladder, he backs up and then keeps going. His battery life lasts well past sundown. He picks up all sorts of bugs and anything else on the surface before it sinks to the bottom. It's great, too, because we can turn the pump off for many hours and just have Charlie deposit the chlorine. We decided on this instead of the more expensive robot vacuum and this has been working very well. My husband is very happy with his gift! July 8, 2012
Money Well Spent I was very hesitant to spend so much for a skimmer however we live with trees all around us and would have to hand skim all the time. Since we've been using the Solar Breeze (about a month now) I have only needed the hand skimmer a couple of times after storms. We also don't need to sweep the pool as often because the Solar Breeze picks up everything before it sinks. We have dogs and their hair is always blowing into the pool and this skimmer even picks up the dog hair! This has to be the best purchase I've ever made! August 13, 2013
Love this pool skimmer! I wish I'd bought this last year so my pool would have been sparkling clean this spring. The cost was the deal breaker then. However, I decided to purchase it this year because what good is a pool if you don't get in it because there is debris all over the top all the time? We have so much pollen and a lot of trees that just dump stuff everywhere. Daily manual skimming wasn't enough. This works beautifully. I was concerned about it getting stuck in my irregularly shaped pool, but it backs up when it needs to & works like a charm. My pool guy was amazed by it. May 30, 2013

Answer:
Yes, we have seen both human and pet hairs in the Skimmer's filter when we empty it.

Also, during a recent remodel, we spray painted our doors in the backyard, and a fine mist of paint landed on the surface of the pool -- by the end of the day, the little Skimmer had collected it all and needed to be emptied.
