Christmas Decoration Fit for Santa

Karen Didion has been a designer for the past 15 years, and her clients have included Bergdorf Goodman, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Neiman Marcus. For Frontgate, Didion designed Christmas decorations that feature Santa's friendly face and whimsical attitude.

Didion often made her Christmas decorations for friends and family, a task she grew to love. She started a business based on her designs, and originally sold items at fairs and country clubs in St. Louis and Dallas. Her Santa designs are now nationally recognized for their high-quality craftsmanship.

"I try to 'capture your memories' with my designs and hopefully make the viewer feel good when they view one of my Santas. I design very traditionally, which keeps my customers enjoying for years to come and adding to their collection."

Didion says she is inspired by the love of Christmas, and the fact that she is a part of a warm, supportive and loving family. She typically starts a new creation after discovering a unique fabric or trinket. Then she plans her design in her head, and creates an incredibly detailed Santa.

Since each Santa is hand-crafted, each design varies as to the length of time needed to make the depending on the complexity of the design, sewing styles, and other factors. Some of her Christmas decorations take a week to create, and some take more than a year to come to fruition.

Didion says she hopes "that each one of my Santa's, when viewed by a customer, brings back a pleasant memory that occurred in their life. I try to create a Santa with a face that glows of happiness and love for the Christmas season."
