John Hopper was born in Greenville, South Carolina and was raised in Lexington, KY. As a youth, he was encouraged by his mother to continually feed his creativity and his passion. His mother came from the old southern girls’ school tradition of teaching the liberal arts to young women and as a result she emphasized creative activity for her son.
As a young man, John moved to Cincinnati to study architecture at the Art Academy of Cincinnati. There he found work as an apprentice for an eccentric art director, and learned many unconventional methods of art making. After a few years as an apprentice, he moved on to working as a freelance artist for individuals and corporations.
Throughout the years, John’s images have been fueled by his travels throughout the United States, Mexico, and China. His work ranges from drawings, to paintings, to sculpture. John currently works at his craft full time while raising a family.
