34"H Tension-Mount Expanding Pet Gate is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 174.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great dog gate right out of the box! This was a repeat purchase. Well-crafted product, adjustable for different sized doors. Opened carton and installed in 5 minutes. Looks great and works great. Highly recommend.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Like the Metal Gate The gate is easily assembled. My doorway was in between sizes. Select the smaller size as the bigger one will never fit the opening. I like it because it is metal. The last gate I bought had wooden bars and my puppy bulldog chewed through it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic gate!! The gate is so pretty and the walk through function is also worth the extra money. This gate also automatically closes after you go through. Terrific

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice Well constructed & easy installation. Unfortunately, it is not tall enough to keep my cats separated. My kitty scaled it easily the first day. I wish that they would offer a taller one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 3 Large dogs I have three german shepherds. This is the first gate that is strong and sturdy and well made. All the other gates I've had in the past the dogs jumped over or they broke. This is well made and very pleased with it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pet Gate Great looking pet gate! The door swing is solid and there is a lock as well. Nice bronze color looks good in the doorway. Thanks Frontgate for another happy purchase!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Wanted to give it a 5 star but.... Love the look, however... The description online does not say what size dog this accomodates. I have LARGE dogs. The picture shows a large breed dog however the paperwork states this is for a small to medium dog up to 44lbs. Hope not. Arrived somewhat bent, I needed it now so I bent it into place and made it work. Instructions are not totally clear. Could make these better. I am a blonde female and installed it on me own. LOL. If your doorframe is 32" wide, buy this one, not the extra wide gate of the same style. I was looking at both since they each included a 32" doorframe. Utilize the extension piece that comes with this gate and run the tension knobs to zero. Hope this helps!

How do you assemble this gate?

Asked by: Peeks
If you are using the filler piece then you put the two metal dowels on the top and bottom of the side you are putting the filler piece and attach it. It looks like the locking parts will never go together but it does. You have to use the four tension rods and put them in the top and bottom holes on the gate and the filler piece if using. The tension rods are what makes the gate come together and lock. They have to be pretty even to work so practice tightening each one a little at a time. The directions are not the best but going over the pictures in the directions helps a little.

What hardware is used to add extra panel?

I bought this a few years ago (still looks great!) and now have the need to put in the extension piece. I have the gate section, but I don't know what hardware (dowels? Bolts?) I am looking for in my toolbox... can't recall what came with it and I failed to label it. Thanks!
Asked by: NeoMastiffMomma
They are metal dowels about 3 to 4 inches long. Hope this helps.

Do you have to lift the gate to release it to open?

I thought when you pulled the latch, the bottom bolt would lift and release the gate. Instead, I have to lift the gate high enough to release the bolt. Is this a design flaw or a defective gate?
Asked by: QualityKat
THE ONE I HAVE IS SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT AND HAS THE MESH NOT THE SPINDLES. OTHER THAN THAT IT IS PRETTY MUCH THE SAME DESIGN. MINE DOESN'T REQUIRE LIFTING THE LATCH. I JUST SQUEEZE/PUSH THE LATCH TO THE RIGHT & IT UNLATCHES TO SWING OPEN.

I need two gates: one for a 32-inch space, one for a 40-inch one. Will this gate fit for both spots? Are the expanders included with the gate?

Asked by: tkaprowy
EXPANDERS WERE NOT INCLUDED WHEN I PURCHASED THIS GATE OVERB 6 YRS AGO. I DO NOT THINK IT WILL GO TO 40IN, BUT I COULD BE WRONG. IT SHOULD SAY WHAT THE DIMENSIONS ARE FOR EXPANSION ON THE WEBSITE, NO?

Side opening width?

I would like to mount it with enough room to let my cat through but not the dog. How wide can the side gaps get? (Is 3 inches the max)
Asked by: Catsanddogs
Good question. I am thinking somewhere around 4inches maybe. Not much more than that. It depends too how wide your door opening is that your putting it in. So can't give an exact #. But my guess is no more than 5 inches. Hope that helps some.

Installation on baseboards?

My baseboard molding is 2.5 inches high and 1 inch deep. In order to install this, two criteria must be met: 1) Do the bottom mounts set against the walll no higher than 2.25 inches? 2) Because the top tension mounts will each be extended close to 1 inch wider than the bottom, will the gate be stable?
Asked by: HHB1
I had a similar setup and wouldn't recommend it. The molding is a little too small to provide a secure fit and the difference in width at the top would make it dislodge easily in that doorway. Have used in a solid doorframe with no issues.

Does the gate close automatically and if so, is there a way for it to remain open?

Asked by: ljensen
Yes it pulls up to open and can be left open by not shutting it tightly. But since it opens in or out, it's best to open it inwards then your pet can't push through it, its a great feature.

How does the bottom of the gate release to open the door?

For the two top buttons, the top one is on a spring and releases one of the sliding latches and the lower one is not on a spring release and releases the other sliding latch. Is that correct? Once I release the two buttons, the top is open but the vertical base pin is still inserted and restricts me from opening the door unless I manually pull up on the door itself. Is that the correct function or should the gate be able to be opened by simply sliding over the two top buttons and swinging the door open?
