Altura Cantilever Umbrella is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 20.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from I just received this and it is large and pretty versatile in that it rotates and tilts. My advice is to try to figure out exactly where you want it in advance based on the sun position and where you need shade. It only tilts down toward the post. And since the base is so large, it isn't so convenient to put it next to a sitting area where it could be in the way. My issue is that we have had some wind and I left it up and it blew over and broke a few pavers in the process. Given the weight it was very difficult to get it back in place by myself. You definitely need 2 people to set it up. I thought this was just because the wind was very gusty, but it almost happened again in much less wind, so I would be careful and not leave it open unattended if there is any wind at all. Not sure what they can do about this - maybe the smaller options aren't as susceptible to this. You can't really add more than 12 pavers and mine were pretty heavy. If not for this, I'd give it 5 stars and I'd still probably get it again I'd just be more careful if there were any wind.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Don’t buy if you have more than 5mph winds Well I love it but... it has plastic parts which make it not work if even a little wind is happening we live in nor cal the wind doesn’t blow even 10 mph but the plastic lock doesn’t hold I was so hoping at this price it would be made more like the resort umbrellas But not happening

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Covers lots of area I purchased it so I could have shade in my pool and the areas around the pool. It was not obvious to me from the Frontgate website, but the umbrella will pivot 360 degrees in small increments so you can have shade exactly where you want it. It is a bear to put together if you're buy yourself. I strongly recommend three people for the job. One of the springs came out of the umbrella during operation, I was able to fix it easily but I'm going to keep an eye on it to see if it comes out again. Definitely a good umbrella.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product I bought this a few weeks ago and I’m glad I did. It takes 2 people to attach it to the stand but other than that it comes fully assembled. When you have placed pavers in the stand it is very stable, no issues with normal wind. Very easy to extend .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect This is a sturdy umbrella. We purchased the 13’ one and it provides the shade we needed. We did need some extra help putting the pole in the base and attaching the umbrella.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from More than perfect! We could not be more than pleased, it was the best choice. It is easy to use, does not budge in the wind, of intense quality, and looks great. We have had two patio parties and have gotten many compliments on it. I highly recommend it and we did shop around a lot prior to purchase.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Extremely difficult setup If you follow the included directions, it is impossible to put this together with two people, even strong ones like us. The umbrella is extremely heavy, and it’s difficult to lift the umbrella up to attach it to the base. In retrospect, we’d have attached it while it was laying down and then stood up the umbrella and base, but now the pavers are stuck inside the base and can’t be removed easily. We still have not been able to complete installation, and Frontgate customer service was no help. These challenges come after half the parts were missing from the box. We needed to wait an extra 10 business days for them to be shipped separately. I would not recommend this product unless you have four burly men at your disposal.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very happy after finally receiving the umbrella I wrote earlier that I had a problem with delivery, but after finally receiving the umbrella and setting it up, I can say we are very happy with the product. It is easy to set up and operate - the mechanics are smooth, the umbrella is attractive. We like the fact it is 8 feet high - you don't feel closed in. And the umbrella cover is very good as well. We like the whole thing so much, we are ordering another one. A couple of tips on assembly (which are not mentioned in the written instructions): put the finial on before you put the umbrella on the base (otherwise it's too high to reach without a ladder); there is a plastic protector between the umbrella frame and the umbrella fabric where the finial is attached - leave that in place; and then there are black fabric guards on the elbows of the umbrella frame that should be removed after it's set up.

So is it normal that that glue you use in the top of the umbrellas, blows out and coats the white umbrella in black goo? 2 year old umbrella used 2 months out of each year and than garage stored.

How big is the base on this? Also what are 16x16in pavers that are required for this?

Asked by: Amys123
Thank you for your interest in the Altura Cantilever Umbrella. The base of this umbrella is approximately 33.7" sq. x 5.6"H so the thickness of the pavers would need to be approximately 2" thick. We would recommend contacting your local hardware store to obtain their availability on this size paver.

can the fabric canopy be changed if it gets dirty? I like the white but am concerned with upkeep.

Asked by: Brendan M
Thank you for your interest in the Altura Cantilever Umbrella. This canopy is made with 100% solution-dyed acrylic canopy fabric designed for outdoor performance, and it is not designed to need replaced. When the umbrella is not in use, we do recommend covering it with the custom cover included with the umbrella. If the canopy should need cleaning, you may do so with lukewarm water, mild detergent, and a sponge.

Is there a ground mount option for this umbrella?

Asked by: MarcW
Thank you for your interest in the Altura Cantilever Umbrella. This item should be used with the base it comes with. Using it in any other way would void the warranty.

Asked by: 1pattyc
Thank you for your interest in the Altura Cantilever Umbrella. Sunbrella is a brand that uses 100% solution-dyed acrylic fabric. These are 100% solution-dyed acrylic canopy fabric, just not Sunbrella brand.
