Altura Cantilever Umbrella is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 116.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice but heavy I received my new umbrella last Thursday. Be sure to have pavers ready for the base and some tall people to lift the heavy tall umbrella onto the pedestal rod that is in the pole which have to bolt down first. Instructions aren’t the best to get the final piece on. It’s big so if putting it close to your house allow for it being fully opened and not hitting your house or windows. If not you about have to take it back apart to move it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great umbrella! Just had this delivered on Friday. We love it. Its HUGE. The tough thing is it requires quite a lot of room to open it up. We are still trying to figure out how to make this work with having it close to furniture, yet it hits the furniture when you are trying to open it up. Its probably better for a very spacious patio than a deck. We are still working on rearranging to get this to work. I can't get it open since the adjustments are too high. I'm 5'9". Once its open its great. Easy set-up once you find the hardware (hidden in packaging / umbrella). The base is huge and unattractive. It takes 16 pavers, not the 12 it states in the description. We have the beige color and it was true to color (not the white others have stated).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very Sturdy, but ……. My wife and I spent almost two months researching for the perfect Cantilever umbrella - and ultimately decided upon the Altura Cantilever Umbrella from Frontgate. It was certainly the most expensive by far, but we wanted the 13’ of coverage and the Frontgate name is one that we know of as being solid in the industry, so we bit down and made the purchase. A couple of things I would like to mention: 1) The delivery truck left the two heavy boxes (you need at least two people to put this umbrella together) on my outdoor patio - when I was not at home and we had three straight days of rain. Hence, the cardboard boxes were all but pieces of heavy paper when I was able to unpack and install the umbrella. 2) I first unpacked the base - only to find that there is no “cover” for the base. I went back to the website and in fact noticed that the pictures do not have a cover (so thats my fault for not picking up on that) - but I must say, it rather annoys me to look at the eye sore of 16”x16” pavers that in my mind should be covered, especially when considering the price point (other options from other websites that are much less expensive have this option) - with that said, we have elected to keep the umbrella and “disguise” the base with potted flowers or the like. 3) This is a very heavy umbrella - but very sturdy and well constructed. It will take two or possibly three people to install and uninstall this umbrella at the end of the season. In short - a very good purchase, but the the shipping and handling and the fact that the base is not covered made this transaction somewhat lacking and the reason for not giving 5 stars.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Frontgate umbrella is very worth the price!! Just received Frontgate Umbrella looks great, is of excellent quality, and worth the little extra spend. Only disappointment, I wish they had few more colors to choose from. Overall, I trust Frontgate and you can't go wrong with their quality and guarantee.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great quality. Large but easily operated. We purchased the 10x13 in indigo with thr teal pole. The umbrella opens up and closes with ease and it covers a huge area. It is definitely a great quality umbrella that will stay secure in place and last a long time. My only issue was that it is quite heavy and it took two people to set it up. So pick the right spot to put the umbrella. It’s hard to move.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Altura Umbrella Base Improvement Some have expressed disappointment with the base. Here are a few modifications I made to provide mobility and hide the concrete weights. 1. Attached four 125 lb. swivel casters to 1/4" steel plate on each corner. 2. Built a 3/4" plywood cover for the supplied base. 3. Filled (8) 6" x 8" x 16" concrete blocks with concrete. Secured the plywood base to the concrete blocks with construction adhesive. Blocks raise the plywood base to be flush with the finial. Result...mobility and a more finished look. An afternoon project that can be done by any weekend warrior.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great addition to the patio The Altura Umbrella is a great addition to the patio. It is large enough to cover the patio furniture and goes well with the decor. With only one pole it gives an open, airy feeling while providing ample shade and cover. While heavy and well built, assembly was not difficult. The post was mounted to the base first, then tilted over and joined to the umbrella assembly before raising the assembly. Once assembled the ballast was easy to add and provides a stable base. My wife and I were able to get the umbrella set up easily within an hour without any help.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Big and Beautiful Firstly this a very big umbrella which is nice but it requires a big heavy base that you have to fill with heavy pavers which is understandable considering the size but it’s a pain in the butt. The install is a 2 man job at a minimum but once you’re done it’s great. It’s huge and can be tilted and also turned 360 degrees. Just make sure you measure everything since once installed it can’t be moved without taking out the pavers. Definitely the nicest umbrella of this type without spending allot more money. I am very pleased with it and reccomend it highly, just know that the installation is a big job.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I await the rest of my order. Only the base was received on May 6th. The delivery person advised I’d have the other parts the following Tuesday. 15 days later and still nothing. I spoke with customer service yesterday. They are tracking the umbrella and cantilever, but I have not heard back.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful and functional This umbrella was recommended by interior designer. It is elegant in design and we love the look and the quality. We purchased the 10 x 13 size. It is important to know for placement of the stand that the post is on the 13' side. It came with all parts (some of them were tucked inside the packing) and with instructions that made sense. We knew that we would have to purchase 12 concrete blocks 16 x 16" to hold the stand in place. I asked 3 strong men to help mount the umbrella onto the stand, although 2 of them would have been sufficient. It is easy to raise and lower the umbrella, although it helps to be tall enough to reach the floating part on the post (I am 5'7".) It is also helpful to know that you can rotate the umbrella 90 or 180 degrees to allow more room to raise or lower the umbrella so that it does not hit your table or chairs. Now it is winter in San Diego, and it creates the sense of an outdoor living space with out patio heaters, but we are anticipating that it will be even better during the summertime to provide shade and block the sun. It looks as if it can be cantilevered a bit to help with that, so having the post positioned on the west side seems best to help with afternoon sun.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice Umbrella but Disappointed I purchased this umbrella and was very unhappy with the size and look of the base. The base is very bulky and I would not have purchased this had I seen proper pics of the base.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Would be great except... As another reviewiers have mentioned, you fill the base with cement blocks and there is no way to cover them up. It really takes away from the overall look. Other than the unfortunate looking base, it's heavy (no need to worry about tipping), easy to operate and holds up well. We are on our third year and it still looks brand new. No fading, no wear/tear, etc.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Umbrella! Love!!! Great amazing quality umbrella. Covers large space. Looks professional. You would see outdoor at a Miami hotel. Take 3 people to set up. Note. Screws and small pieces are hidden in base box. You need to dig for the pieces. They are in the box hidden in the cardboard. Hope to have this umbrella forever!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Cheap looking. Very expensive and generally high quality, but the base is inconsistent with both the price and the other materials used. It's merely a metal frame which you fill with 12 or so paving stones for counter-weights. You see the paving stones. There is nothing to cover the stones. This gives it a really cheap, unfinished.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Happy so far, but beware the install instructions I am very pleased with the quality of the umbrella. I think it will work out great. But the installation was a nightmare, mainly because the installation instructions provide terrible advice. They tell you to first install the adapter (a 3 foot long vertical post with a flange at the bottom that bolts into the base), then lift the umbrella onto the adaptor and slide it down. This might work for a small umbrella, but not for the 11.5 foot model that we got. It's just way too heavy and unwieldy for this. After trying to follow their instructions, we finally decided to ignore them and just lifted the post onto the base, with the adaptor locked inside the main column. Once this assembly is upright on the base, one person can hold it place, while the other screws the first two bolts into the base. Once the first two are are in, you can pull the pin that locks the column to the adaptor, so it can rotate, giving you access to the other bolt holes. One thing to watch out for is that the adaptor holes are not evenly spaced, so there is only one alignment of the adaptor to the base that actually works. Before raising the umbrella, make sure you know how it needs to lines up, and mark it with a piece of masking tape so that you can get the right alignment once it's positioned on the base. It takes at least two pretty strong people to do this, and preferably at least one should be tall.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from perfect for Florida Purchased these umbrella a few years ago and I love them. Florida had hurricane season and these umbrellas can be put down with no problem. They give great coverage, so far are holding up well. I have lost a gazebo in the past and wanted something that gave me the same coverage that I can lay down when a storm comes. YES I would order again, less expensive that building another gazebo.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from WOW! Beautiful & Sturdy Protection from the Sun. WOW!! I can't say enough about this Cantilever Umbrella, It really allows us to enjoy our outdoor space. This summer we have been home more than ever so I couldn't wait to receive it, my son has one so I knew it would be a great asset to our home. I didn't realize how fabulous it was until we had a few family members over on a hot sunny day, our party continued until after dark and when we moved the umbrella almost effortlessly out of the way, someone said that it felt as if the roof was taken off.. it offers so much protection and it looks so beautiful..

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Set up considerations n’at Very substantial, well built product. Look at the holes at top of base/bottom of pole prior to lifting pole into place. Takes 2 people to set up. Expect to put 2-3 bolts into place, pause and unpin umbrella from pole, rotate a bit to open up access to next 2-3 holes and repeat until snug. 13’ sq umbrella is about 8.5’ off ground in the center; haven’t found right sized patio heater to put underneath yet. Definitely needs a fair amount of clearance to open up. Give yourself 6 good feet from the base without furniture or railing etc. Easy to swing into place after it’s open. Buy the twelve 16” wide (1-3” tall doesn’t really matter) pavers before unboxing umbrella. Put the round cap on top of umbrella on before lifting pole into place. Enjoy

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Make sure you are ok with a side mount This is a side mount umbrella, which it it not designated as in the catalog or online. I had to return the 10 x 13 for a 13 x 13. Otherwise if you position the table under the long side of the umbrella, you cannot push chairs back. They would back up against that large base when you try to pull a chair out. It's probably fine sitting in the center behind a couch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautifully designed and sturdy umbrella The Altura cantilever umbrella and its recommended cover are both beautifully designed and finished. The base alone, when loaded with its twelve pavers, weighs over 500lbs. As we were installing the umbrella on a deck we did need to carefully check the strength and disposition of the deck supporting beams to make sure they could take the load. The integrated umbrella assembly functions exactly as expected. During assembly, before sliding the vertical umbrella element over the secured internal stem, we recommend binding up the canopy and struts with some bungie cords or similar to make it easier to handle. It is quite heavy and took three of us to lift it to the vertical and align it with the stem. Once that was done, everything slid into place very easily. The canopy fabric is quite delicate but does an excellent shading job. It probably won't stand up to anything more than a moderate breeze which is why we also bought an umbrella cover. The latter has an integrated aluminium rod which allows one to easily hook and unhook the cover over the top of the furled canopy and main frame without needing a ladder. While recognizing that the Altura Umbrella cannot be used in windy weather we are overall delighted with our purchase and expect it to last for many years.
