Can these pieces be used without the cushions in place?

Amazing
I love my Avery outside furniture. I have the chaise set as well for the pool. My cushions are beautiful. The iron detail is beautiful and timeless. The cushions do go longer then the chair. Personally that does not bother me, however something to think about if that would bother you. They are very comfortable and all mine fit so nicely. I also have a outdoor sectional from Frontgate, outdoor pillows and the fabric lasts amazing in the sun.

love the chair not the cushions
I've just written Frontage to let them know that my cushions are puckered all around the piping. They don't look like the photos. In addition, the bottom cushions are about 2 or 3 inches longer than the chair. Look closely at the pictures they do show that.
