Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sorry to disagree... I've had this mailbox for about two years now and couldn't be happier with it. Of all the options out there, I would say that this is the highest quality and the lowest white trash. Make sure you size the wooden post before you bury it; the sizing listed at the hardware store and on the post instructions are slightly off and could result in it not fitting properly.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor quality! I purchased the bronze finish mailbox, post, and base about five years ago and the finish has peeled off and looks terrible! You would expect such an expensive mailbox to last! I have a call into customer service - I’ll post back if they stand behind the quality of their product!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don’t buy - paint peels off I bought this 4 years ago and the paint started peeling after 2 years. There’s no warranty after that Kong - terrible!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from mail gets wet I received my daughter's save the date photo which was all water damaged because water gets in the mailbox in numerous areas during rain or snow... this mailbox was pricey...nice formal look but not functional!!!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from DO NOT BUY This is complete waste of money... The mailbox, lettering and door, etc are all substantial and look great. However, the mailbox was on the ground within a few weeks of purchasing and installing. The entire weight of the mailbox is supported by a few allen wrench screws that attached to the metal post. The weight of the box is too much for the cheap metal of the screws and post, and will start sagging until it finally drops. Each time the mailbox is reattached, it simply opens the holes a bit more, and now it is totally useless. We've tried using a variety of solutions to reattach and keep it up (liquid nails in the holes to hold the screws, etc) but to no avail. Its a lot of money for a mailbox, and a complete bust.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from good looking until paint peels Mailbox good design and size. However within the first year, the paint started to peel and look ratty. After 4 years the box was more silver-metal showing then the brown color It is supposed to be. The gold colored lettering then came off. Finally got letter from HOA to repaint or replace. Would buy again but not at the price that I have to replace every 3-4 years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Happy Postman For years we have had a mailbox that was not installed correctly. I am sure the postman was not happy! He wrote Excellent mailbox thanks on the first letter! It is beautiful and a classic!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Mailbox This is the second time I purchased this mailbox in under a year. I bought the same one for my previous home that i just sold. Unless you go and build a custom mailbox I think this is one of the nicest ones on the market that is already pre made. I have had no issues so far.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from BALMORAL MAILBOX This is a lovely mailbox as should be expected for the price. We were VERY disappointed that holes were not pre~drilled to attach the address plate. The indents that were on the sides of the box where holes were to be drilled did NOT align with the screws on the plate. I should think there would be pre~drilled holes for customers wanting the address plate... especially at this price point. I do hope the paint issue has been resolved and this mailbox will look nice longer than a year or two!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from poor finish Our mail box was one of the nicest in the neighborhood. The instal was just like another mailbox (except I was hovering over husband saying DONT SCRATCH IT). A couple of the screw holes didn't line up, but we have all of the necessary tools to fix that. We live near the ocean so we do experience quick rusting due to the salty air. A year after install, the paint started peeling. We've had this for 8 years and it looks horrendous. I have to pay someone to come out to strip and repaint it. Also, the monogram was super hard to read and you couldn't make out it was an H. Overall, I'm sad, because I really liked the mailbox.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very Disappointed Purchased this mailbox (copper like color) approximately 5 years ago when we remodeled our home. For the first year it was beautiful. Slowly, the finish began to peel away leaving large powdery grey spots that are unsightly. Frontgate sent a new replacement box when I notified them of the problem and sent pictures. I was told at that time, that they were aware of the problem and significant changes were made to ensure the durability of the finish. Unfortunately, the same problem occurred. We live in the NE, so we have cold winters and snow; however, a mailbox should last at least 10 years. I notified Frontgate in April of this year, and received an immediate email indicating that they would research and get back to me. I have now emailed twice asking for an update....to no avail. Anyway, although they are beautiful, please know that you will likely need to replaced within a few years. Thanks

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Balmoral Mailbox I absolutley love this mailbox. As a matter of fact, I have ordered three of them. It is gorgeous and very spacious. The mailbox is very well made. It compliments our home so nicely.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Looks nice but low quality Paint began to chip off after 3 years. I recently ordered a new one to replace it which came damaged, (actual metal cracked on the back end). Frontgate will also bill me for the replacement which is expected to ship in a month and will credit me back once I send back the broken one. For the price its not worth it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Paint WILL flake. This mailbox paint will flake within 5 years. I've had 2 and both have flaked. Unfortunately, the company stated they see nothing wrong with it and wouldn't stand behind their product. It's too bad, because other than that, it's a lovely mailbox, but for the price...I'd expect more.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from They don't look great for long I've had two of these mailboxes. These mailboxes look great the first season. Start to show their ware by season two. After three seasons the paint starts to peal. By then they are out of warranty.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Expensive for a box only When I placed the order, I thought the post was included, as it's height/measurements were listed. I would not have spent SO much money on a brown box with no post.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Balmoral Mailbox I am extremely pleased with the appearance and the quality of the mailbox. However, I received only two of the three boxes on day one. It was three days later before I received box number three. Therefore, I thought my order was incomplete. A numbering system on the boxes would be helpful.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from paint peeling We love our mailbox with many compliments. However, it is peeling. I see many others have posted the same complaint. Does it fall under "limited warranty".? I don't see it explained anywhere. Has anyone tried painting?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful Product Recently installed this mailbox with the optional post and decorative base. The quality of construction is top notch and everything assembled without an issue. This one makes every other mailbox on the street look plain and boring.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Nice looking but ........ This mailbox is pretty and appears to be well made but the gold paint used for the address and number is not visible on the white mailbox. It is not even reflective and still cannot be seen when you are close up to the box. In the night is cannot be seen. A big disappointment!!! Now have to pay twice to have the number and address plate repainted to a visible color!!!!!!!!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Disappointed I hired a professional to install the mailbox. The holes are powder coated so it was extremely difficult to get the screws into the 'arm' the the mailbox sits on. 1 screw had to be left off because it just wouldn't go in. Also, after installation when you open the mailbox it shakes back and forth. Somehow the actual mailbox needs to be connected to the post to stabilize it. For the money that I paid I'm very disappointed. Looks great but doesn't function great.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Expected a longer life We have also had the coating bubble up and peel off after about 6 years. Definitely expected a longer lifespan after having paid so much for this mailbox. It is so classy when it is new. We are so disappointed and would also like to know if anyone has had any luck with painting it and if so, what product you have used. Only buy this if you can afford to replace it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful & Sturdy I would have given 5 stars, but the items came in 3 shipments (leaving me worried I didn't have all the parts) and the magnet that holds to door on was broken. Other than that, it looks really great and is so sturdy I don't think it will blink if a hurricane comes through. I heartily recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Design - Good execution This is very well designed product and I think that with some UV blocking auto-wax once every six months the finish should last longer. However, the PROPER installation of this item is NOT for DIY neophytes. In order to have a good outcome, you should be pretty handy and be good at properly measuring and planning an installation. Let your local contractor or handy-man do the install if this does not describe you. Also be aware that you must have a 4x4 treated post as the backbone of the install. Also had a missing screw and a broken magnet in the door. Otherwise, a good value for money.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful mailbox I wanted to review this mailbox so hopefully some improvements could be made. First - the mailbox itself is beautiful and sturdy and I love it. Worth the small headache to get it up. You have to have some tools to install it yourself - you have to dig a hole 30" deep. You also have to purchase a wood post the put in the ground and adhere the mailbox to. The post length is not standard so my husband had to cut it at home. Not a big deal, but you will need a large saw. Also, the screw used to adhere the monogram letter to the door wouldn't work, and they have to send us a new one, which also didn't work. We ended up finding one at the hardware store. Not a deal breaker - just annoying. I'm sure if you hire a handyman to do it - he will have all the proper tools.

I just ordered the Balmoral mailbox. Because of a ditch near the road, I couldn't order the post and had to have someone put a 4x4 post in. I would like to order the post cap that comes on the post, if possible. Can it be ordered separately? Thank you

Can someone explain how to install the post base cuff? Is the cuff installed before you fasten the aluminum post to 4x4? There's a single hole at the base of the aluminum post, so I'm assuming the post base cuff hex screw is fastened in the single hole.

Asked by: EddieSunshine
I think I figured out my own question. The single hole located at the bottom of the aluminum post is for water drainage so water doesn't pool after rainfall. The aluminum post is attached to the 4x4 and then the cuff is installed to hide the two lag screws. I just think the directions could be a little clearer. From trial and error, you must make sure your 4x4 is plumb. If not, the mailbox and post will appear slumped and out of alignment.
