Solid and sturdy.
Solid and sturdy pet gate that holds back our two Labradors with no problems. Stands up on its own and easy to adjust to fit openings.

Sturdy and beautiful gate.
We have two 6-pound Chihuahuas, and we started fostering dogs up to about 20-25 pounds a few months ago. Foster dogs can be a flight risk, and it soon became evident that we needed a solution to keep our foster dogs safe. We have white baseboard molding, white plantation shutters, and white crown molding. I wanted something that would look nice AND keep the fosters from fleeing.
I am happy to say the Benson Pet Gates do the job perfectly! I ordered a freestanding gate and a tension gate, each with the human size gate that makes it easy to pass back and forth. They look great and are sturdy enough to keep our flighty fosters from making a door dash. The bars are also spaced closely enough so that our Chihuahuas cannot put their heads through and get caught. The freestanding gate is indeed freestanding and it is quite stable. The tension gate can be bolted to the wall. Our fosters are on the small side so the tension is working fine for us. I do recommend reading all assembly instructions as it’s not obvious at first how things go together. I am very pleased to have an attractive solution to the ugly traditional pet gates that work well enough but are an eyesore in your home.
PS. It is sometimes necessary to crate our foster dog. I’m now going to need a Pet Residence crate from Frontgate as an alternative to the traditional plastic crates that get the job done but don’t look so great in your living room. We prefer not to crate but it is necessary for the safety of all when we leave the home for errands.

Free standing Benson gate
This is a very sturdy, nice looking gate. It is easy to open and shut. Our Yorkie puppies cannot squeeze through the bars. We are very pleased with our purchase.

Perfect and handsome doggie gate
High quality. Fit perfectly the 4 foot opening. Heavy weight, so no chance of dog tipping it over. Easy to assemble. Handsome look. Might be heavy for some.

Freestanding pet gate
We got the free standing gate and it works really well at the base of our stairs to prevent our doggies from going upstairs. It is high quality and assembly was easy. The little gate is slightly narrow but still sufficient and a nice feature. The wrought iron look was just what we were looking for to match our decor!

High Quality.
Very sturdy! Great looking. I love that it is freestanding and the size is adjustable. I have two of these gates. I bought the first one and then decided I needed another one. They are worth the price.

Nice Dog Gates
There is a lot to like about this dog gate; it looks and functions well. The decorative knobs certainly elevate the appearance and give the gates some character. I bought them in white, and they work really well with the white moldings around the door openings.
The gates are spring loaded, which is a bit of a pain, but I'm getting used to them, and they do keep the dogs where they are supposed to be. I have other gates that don't automatically close; my dogs frequently wander where they shouldn't because someone will forget to close the gate, particularly when guests are in the house.
On the negative side, I think the gates should be a little beefier. They certainly aren't flimsy, but thicker pickets and rails would look better in my opinion.
These gates were not the easiest dog gates to put up. We had to put screws through the plastic placement cups and into the woodwork in order to keep them in place. That certainly was not what I was expecting when I bought them.
Overall, I am very pleased with these dog gates, and I would recommend them. I couldn't find anything better that's available on the market today.

Sturdy gate easy to assemble
This took me only about 10 to 15 minutes to unpack and put together. I wish it had holes on the side to put a stand up if you didn’t want the extension. Seems to work well for now and I have a great Dane.

Pet gate
It’s very heavy. It only opens one way. Which is not convenient.

The holes are drilled incorrectly
We purchases the freestanding version, with the embedded gate. In the photo, there is a small gap below the frame and the ground. However the actual piece has the frame rests a few millimeters lower that the side feet, causing it to rock back and forth instead of being stable. Don't get the freestanding.

can you confirm this gate is tension mounted and is not a freestanding gate? I need it to be pressure/tension mounted in a doorway. Thank you
Thank you for your interest in our Benson Pet Gates. This item comes in both freestanding and tension mount, the option must be chosen from the drop down menu.

Which sizes have a door for adults to pass through?
Thank you for your interest in our Benson Pet Gates. The 34" free standing gate and the 36" tension mount gate have a door on them.

How narrow can the tension gate adjust to? I have a door opening of 36 inches.
I believe the frontgate answer is incorrect. Under dimensions it states "36"H Benson Tension-mount Pet Gate (167667): 33-1/4-37-1/2"W x 1-3/4"D x 36"H, 20 lbs"

Does this item require drilling holes in the door frame to install?
Thank you for your interest in our Benson Pet Gates. This item does not require holes to be drilled, it comes in either a free standing option or a tension mount option.

Do you have pictures of the sides of the 34" free standing Benson gate that you could share please? Thank you.
Thank you for your interest in the Benson Pet Gates. We apologize; we do not have any alternate images available at this time.

I need to know the width range for the 34" Benson free standing gate (Item #167667). The description states 53" wide, but since I have an opening of 48", does it have a smaller width?
Thank you. But I was told the 34" free-standing gate's narrower width is 53", not 40" when I called.

What is the narrowest that the free standing 34" free standing Benson gate goes? (item #167667). Shows 53" on the website but looks like it can be shortened. Our hallway opening is 45.5" and want to make sure it will compress to fit.
This gate will fit a space 53" or larger only.

What is the smallest width of the gate
Thank you for your interest in the Benson Pet Gates. This item expands from 40" to 70.25".
