Capitol Mailbox is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 90.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Your results may vary - but Frontgate did good I am on my second Capitol mailbox. At the bottom of my review I will mention a tip for people who want to preserve the finish. I installed my first Capitol mailbox in 2009 following the instructions, and once it stood up we were very pleased. It was the nicest on our road and it felt solid. I sunk the wood post (sold separately) into 2 bags of Quikrete concrete mix and it has been level ever since. After about eight years, I noticed some flaking on the edges of the mailbox door and both support brackets. Finally, after 10 years of use the door hinge broke apart and I could not repair it despite several attempts. The door is heavy and solid, and the one remaining hinge was on borrowed time. The exterior finish had also continued to chip away on the mailbox trim and brackets. Still, I was ready to buy another one – but I checked about the warranty first. From what I read from reviews on Frontgate, the mailbox used to have a lifetime warranty, but it no longer does. Fortunately, when I purchased mine – it did have the warranty. I could not find my original order number, receipt or anything – but when I called Frontgate, they searched for my customer information (I had no online account back then) and they found my order! I followed their instructions to file a warranty claim and in about a week I was informed the manufacturer was going to ship a new mailbox and bracket assembly. They were NOT sending the post cover, but my post cover was fine. When I received the new mailbox, they sent the custom address side panels (same address as before) but for some reason they left out the “Initial” monogram that gets put on the front of the door. That was not a big deal for me – I was happy to have a new mailbox and brackets. A+ to Frontgate and the manufacturer for honoring the warranty! To preserve the finish, I recommend coating the mailbox and brackets (at a minimum) with some form of clear protective coating. Even though the manufacturer says that the mailbox has a weather-resistant finish, I don’t know that it can last forever in areas where there is a lot of road dirt or salt (I live on one of the few unpaved roads in my area). In my case, I had a friend put three coats of automobile clear coating on the mailbox and brackets (he does this for a living, and does my car as well). It will be interesting to see if I get more years out of this one before the finish starts to chip away. But more importantly I am hoping the hinge will hold up better after 10 years.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Looks great but is falling apart We bought this mailbox 13 years ago. Overall it still looks great. It has held up well until this winter. The screws fell out on the address plate and the hinges on the door have fallen apart. We have repaired it repeatedly. I am not sure what the next step is. I will call customer service.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Door Hinge Broken Overall this mailbox has performed well. Recently the door hinge fell apart on the right side. After 6 years I believe the quality and price of this item are out of sync. We have not suffered any peeling of the bronze finish. Given the price I am disappointed that the hinge only lasted 6 years for a residential mailbox.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from DO NOT BUY - Mail Gets Wet This mailbox is so disappointing. It’s beautiful and a great size, but our mail has been SOAKED. I’ve been unable to find some sort of liner to compensate, so may need to buy something else. It’s not even bearable how wet it gets when it rains.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Finish flakes and rusts after a few years Beautiful and sturdy mailbox and post. Unfortunately, the paint flakes off in random places and there’s rust on the inside. One side of the box is south facing and has faded to a different color. This is an outdoor product. These should not be issues for such an expensive item.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Monogram letter is indiscernible The gold monogram letter has so much background ivy or whatever in the pattern, you can't even see the letter. Overall, the mailbox looks pretty cheap and poorly constructed. Worth about half of what Frontgate is charging.
