European Round Side Mount Umbrella is rated 3.4 out of 5 by 40.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Strong solid construction. I love that it swivels....and beautiful too.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Indoor use ONLY! We purchased this umbrella bc of the look, size, shape and German engineered. We have wasted our money. Any breeze at all and the unbrella and weighted base becomes a kite! Ok, no biggie just add more weight to the base, right? Wrong! Added an extra 400lbs or rock and concrete and a 8-10 mph wind blows it over. We will never have a enjoyable afternoon by the pool again, if this umbrella is opened. It now stays inside it's cover to never be open by us again, at least until the tears in fabric and aluminum arms and rivets are fixed. One of the worst purchased we've made, ever!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great quality and covers a considerable amount of space. We have it over our outdoor sectional couch, and the 11 ft is a perfect size for that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Truly last forever! We purchased our 2nd Sun Garden umbrella 2 years ago from FG and love it. Our 1st was purchased 22 years ago from a high end patio store. We just today ordered a replacement canopy for it. We live in Ohio and have one on our pool patio and one on our dining patio and have no issues with them falling over. Our old one fell over during a tornado but didn’t break!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid! I was hesitant about purchasing this bc of the earlier reviews, but I loved the look more than others and the price was hard to beat. We have had the umbrella for almost 3 months. It is beautiful and very sturdy. It survived 45 mile gusts during the latest hurricane. It’s super heavy, so wherever you want it just know it will be difficult to move. It winds up and down with ease. We just closed up the umbrella before the storm and it was fine. My home is 2400 sq ft. We purchased the 13’ umbrella. This picture makes the umbrella look smallish, but it’s not. It is quite the statement and provides much needed shade for the Georgia heat. The directions were a little wonky, but we figured it out. It does take 2 people to put it together. Tho I was not much help (because I’m weak), it was enough help to put some of the heavier/larger pieces together. It came with it’s own umbrella cover. Hope this helps.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Save Your Money I didn’t want to rush into a poor review last summer, so I gave it sometime and quite honestly, I wish I would have returned this umbrella. I spent xxxx and my neighbor’s similar umbrella with sunbrella fabric is superior in many ways, and they got theirs at a big box store for xxx. Pros: the size provides good shade coverage, the color is pleasing (although the brown and tan clash with my black Carlisle set, black was not an available option), solid pole, arms and lever. Cons: while structurally sound, the mechanism that slides up the pole when you extend the umbrella scrapes and cuts into the base pole. This happened upon first use and the grooves continue to get deeper and deeper on every use. It’s unsightly and I’m worry about eventual rust since it has cut through the paint. We live in southern N.J. and aren’t known for our winds, however, this umbrella has fall over ok nearly every occasion we’ve had it up. Our backyard is extremely sunny and hot. We need this umbrella to make going outdoors possible during these hot summer months and out of 12-15 total uses, it has fallen over at least 10 of those times. Naturally, the tumbling over is taking its toll on the actual umbrella’s arms and fabric. While they’re quality under (presumed) “normal” use, bashing into the ground is not helping the longevity here. Plus, landing on my child eating lunch and knocking our wine over to stain my FG chair cushions hasn’t exactly been a highlight, not to mention a bit embarrassing when company is over. When the sun is bearable we forgo the umbrella because it’s bound to tip over. We’ve filled the base with about 200 pounds of sand and additional weight in rocks, but it’s not helping. Even when there’s a light wind, it still dips down super low and then the base dances across the patio. My husband wants us to buy bricks, slate, or a cinderblock (super elegant). Of course that would work, but why did I pay xxxx to junk up my yard. I could’ve spent xxx in a big box store and did the same thing. I went for the FG one because I expected better. Pass on this unless you have a courtyard application or other superbly protected (read: Stone wall) yard.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Had a good amount of trouble with this umbrella I would not recommend you buy this product. This is my 3rd umbrella because the first 2 didn't work as expected. Both times we had issues with the lever that allows you to move the umbrella from side to side. This piece is extremely important since once the umbrella is set up, you will not be able to re-position it easily. I also found it difficult to set up and install the first time. My advice is to find another alternative because this one isn't as advertised.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love this umbrella! I've had this umbrella for about a month and absolutely love it. I was concerned with others saying it doesn't hold up in wind. I filled the base with 250 pounds of sand so it could stay in place all winter as I'm in Northwest Ohio and winters can get quite cold. On very windy days...and always when leaving the house, I close the umbrella. I have left up with wind, though slightly protected on my patio and the umbrella is very sturdy and don't have any concerns with it "taking off". It looks great, well constructed and I do believe meant to last for many many years. I have the tan cover so won't know about color fade. There is one knob on the arched piece that you push umbrella up with, that I wonder about. The screw on the knob is stripped and there fore doesn't do what ever it's supposed to. Customer service, as soon as I got it, said to use a bit of strength...well, it didn't do anything, however umbrella, slides up easily, stays up, and is easy to pull down. I am very happy with everything about this umbrella and would recommend to anyone!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Limitless umbrella I have one of these umbrellas we have used for 30 years. The material is just now beginning to dry rot. I bought a new one last fall and put it up last week. It does have a weakness in the winds, but we added some weight to the base and it does not tip anymore. We also had to get the one part from the parts department for the tube that holds the umbrella in the stand. I would highly recommend this product and am looking to buy another in the coming year...

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice Big Shade, But Not Durable I purchased this umbrella last year and while it does throw great shade, as the others have mentioned, it does move about easily with a breeze. We live in the North so we have only about 4 months that we use it, and the screw and handle that holds the sliding mechanism broke. I hope this holds up better since it was VERY pricey.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great investment, no regrets We have enjoyed this umbrella for 2 years. It arrived promptly in great condition and assembled easily. After years of replacing cheaper umbrellas, we decide to invest in this more expensive one. It has been worth the cost. We have no regrets.
Date published: 2018-05-30
Rated 3 out of 5 by from fabric faded dramatically after 1 year This was expensive... I know it was not sunbrella fabric but the fabric has faded to a dingy finiah and it's only in the second year of use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Umbrella!! We got this umbrella about one month ago & love it!! Great construction, easy set-up, looks amazing!! Very well built and what a great price it was!!
Date published: 2018-05-23
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointing! This umbrella is very pretty to look at...but it can't take the slightest breeze. It bounces and turns no matter how much we try and tighten the base. What's the point of an umbrella if you have to lower it on a sunny breezy day to keep the thing from crashing into the house or the fence!?! We paid too much money for this headache!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from european side mount umbrella I am very disappointed with his product. Specifically: the packaging was crushed and torn, causing me concern even before unpacking the components. Once the pieces were removed from the packaging the instruction manual was sparse in clarity and lacking in instructions as to the steps needed to assemble the umbrella. The end result is that I have a large collection of pieces that I am unsure how to assemble. I am wishing that I never purchased the product and will be attempting to return the pieces for a full repayment.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not what they say Bought this 2 years ago. Looks beautiful. Does not do well in any kind of wind. It completely broke at the base recently. Tried to get parts and the company does not have them. Pretty big investment for something you can't use in any breeze and it broke due to plastic screw parts. For this price they should make it to last.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not At All Durable This umbrella is not at all durable. I had mine for 13 months when the sleeve that holds the umbrella in the base sheared off in a light breeze. Given that the umbrella is used in a northern climate it actually only had about 5 months of limited use and was never up in anything more than light breezes. Very disappointing considering the price point of the product. I'd stay away from this one.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice shade I bought this umbrella to replace two of the same model I bought from Frontgate several years ago. The canope material on the former ones was not great and only lasted a couple of years before ripping. This canope on this new one appears to be of better quality. I replaced the canopes on the former umbrellas with better fabric and they are still in great shape today, however the cords that enable the umbrella to rise both broke after seven years of use. It was near impossible to find anyone to repair them on the US west coast (the one quote I got was more than the price of a new umbrella) so I purchased this new one. It looks great and works fine. Shipping company was a nightmare.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing umbrella The umbrella is very impressive. Clearly well made, easy to assemble, and easy to use. We needed four 50-pound bags of play sand dampened with water to fill the base completely. It's definitely totally stable. It's impressive to sit under and I've had many compliments already - very happy!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Umbrella I purchased this for my pool seating area. It works great! I love how I can tilt the umbrella as needed to block the sun.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from BEST UMBRELLA! This umbrella is so amazing. It covers my entire seating area. Most important it is so easy to use. you will need 2 people to put the pieces of the umbrella together, but once it's up you will be very happy!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really great! This is a great product! Beautiful umbrella! Exceeded my expectations. It's a little work on the front end to fill with sand and water, and it takes a few tries to learn how to move it and to click it into position, but once you do, it works easily. It can handle a breeze, but I don't keep it open if it's windy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well crafted item The umbrella is well crafted and has great curb appeal. It has many features and is a great addition to anyone's backyard!
Date published: 2017-07-10
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointing I had to return this umbrella. No matter how much weight was on it, it would tip over in the slightest breeze. I think there is something wrong with the vent at the top, not allowing air to go through

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A BEAUTIFULLY CRAFTED PATIO ACCESSORY I was amazed at the quality of this umbrella and eagerly wait for weather conditions that test its utility. I know that too adverse conditions are not good for its being but it does need to be able to protect my other pieces of Frontgate patio furniture. I'm confident that it will accomplish that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality The umbrella is a high quality product, strong and built to sustain wind and rain. The sand and water base keeps the umbrella stable during our "high wind" lake days! Easy to use and easier to look at!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful This is a beautiful umbrella. Just what I was looking for. The quality is excellent. The base was easily filled with all that sand! The only caution I have is that placing the umbrella in the stand is rather unwieldy so have help! I look forward to some wonderful shady summers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Purchase Ever This umbrella is extremely easy to assemble. You need two people but the two boxes are very lightweight. It gives us the extra coverage 13' we need over our hot tub and pool on our deck in our very sunny location. We are very pleased

The base of my umbrella, I bought this umbrella a few years ago, broke.  Can I get a replacement?  I would need both the bottom of the pole and the base it fits into

Can the canopy be positioned further out from the base so the base doesn't have to be as close to the furniture being covered?

Asked by: CarolM
Thank you for your interest in the European Round Side Mount Umbrella. This item is adjustable by extending the curved frame. Once the frame has been fully extended, the canopy cannot be positioned any further away from the base.

I am interested in the 13 ft round model.  If the base is properly filled, does the umbrella still tip with even a slight breeze, as several reviewers have claimed?  I understand about 25 mph but what about, say, 10 to 15?   That is common in my location.

Asked by: Crdcsmith
Thank you for your interest in the European Round Side Mount Umbrella. If the item is assembled correctly and has the correct amount of weight in the base, this item should not tip at 10 - 15 mph winds.
