Best gate we’ve found
Very sturdy, easy to assemble - looks great. We love that it doesn’t have to connect to a wall.

Grateful for Barries!!
I purchased a couple of the freestanding pet barriers, and I’m very impressed with the quality of the barriers. They are sturdy, and heavy enough to keep our Labrador and our French bulldog out of the rooms that they aren’t aloud in, also from our stair case. The barriers have truly given me such a peace of mind!!
Thank you, Frontgate!

Perfect!
Great product! Very sturdy, well made, simple elegant style and blended in nicely with my floor and furnitures. It has nice weight as well and easy assembly. Be aware this is a short gate meant for you to step over. I bought two to keep my 12 year visually challenged Yorkie from climbing up and down stairs and worked for us nicely.

Effective, Elegant and Excellent Quality
I needed something to block the living room access, yet would not look like a prison. This is amazing! I bought two and they keep her off limits while not being intrusive. Heavy and well made. Highly recommended!

Beautiful pet gate
This pet gate is very attractive and if purchasing more than one, it can be arranged to create a dog pen. We had three and I was able to create multiple arrangements. Unfortunately, our puppies grew fast and is a jumper, so it was short lived as a solution for us and we had to return. If you have a small dog, or one that isn’t prone to jumping out, this is a fabulous product and I highly recommend.

How wide are the slates in the freestanding pet barrier. We are a 3 lb Yorkie puppie. I want to make sure she cannot fit her head through them.

Can two gates be put together with plastic ties to crest extended gate larger than 70” (recognize gate not necessarily designed this way, so just curious)?
Thank you for your interest in the Freestanding Pet Barrier in Bronze. We do not recommend putting two gates be put together with plastic ties to extend larger than 70".

Nowhere have I seen the height of this fence. Maybe I missed it but I don't really want to look through 88 questions to see if someone else asked. Can you please tell me the height of it?
Thank you for your interest in the 20-inch Freestanding Barrier. This freestanding pet gate is 20 inches tall.

does the smaller one of these two have a pass thru gate? my mother is 77 years old and i can't have her trying to step over .
Thank you for your interest in the 20-inch Freestanding Barrier. We apologize but this does not have a pass through gate. In order to get that you would have to purchase the 34" Freestanding Pet gate. We apologize for the inconvenience.

I have an 80" cased opening that I would put a dog barrier across. If I purchased a 27"-40" model and a 40"-70" model can I use them together for this?
Thank you for your interest in the 20-inch Freestanding Pet Barrier. There is no way to connect these together so there would be a gap where your fur baby could possibly escape through. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Why isn't this gate recommended for ty breeds? I have a 16lb Havanese and a 12 lb mixed shitz-hu/lhasa apsa. Please advise. Thanks.
Thank you for your interest in the 20-inch Freestanding Barrier. This is not recommended for toy breeds due to the 2" gap between bars.

Can I purchase hardware to hold the gate sections together? I recently moved and the movers removed hardware (pins, nuts and bolts).

My 7 pound dog is able to push open the sides of these gates and escape. She can also push the gates out of place and sometimes takes the pins out with her mouth. Do you have any way to stop the gate from having the sides open or being pushed.
Thank you for your interest in our Freestanding Pet Barrier in Bronze. We are sorry to hear you are experiencing issues with this product. We do recommend bracing this gate against a wall so it is more difficult for a dog to move it. Additionally, we would recommend turning the gate around the other direction so as to prevent your dog from being able to reach the side the pins are on. If you need further assistance with this product, please contact our customer service at 1-888-263-9850 or service@frontgate.com. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Would like to use this for my sunroom. Opening is 117”. Could I get more than one gate to achieve that width or are the gates not meant to be added on?
Thank you for your interest in the Freestanding Pet Barrier in Bronze. The Extra Wide is only made to be 70"W and are not made to be added on to.
Date published: 2018-01-15
how does the gate open to walk through ? does it slide open or push open ?
Thank you for your interest in the Freestanding Pet Barrier in Bronze. This barrier does not have a gate; it is only 20"H and can be stepped over easily. For a gate with a gate please see our 34"H Freestanding Pet Barrier with Gate (31077) which has a latch that has to be released to open it.

Will a 7 pound dog be able to squeeze through the bars?
Thank you for your interest in the Freestanding Pet Barrier in Bronze. The largest gap between the bars is approximately 2.2"W.

I've purchased (2) of these pet gates in the past from Frontgate and they're great!! Now I need (1) more. The write-up states it's in bronze as opposed to black which my previous ones are. Have the colors been changed?
Thank you for your interest in the Freestanding Pet Barrier. This gate is only available in a bronze finish; however, it is a dark oil rubbed bronze color.
Date published: 2017-11-03
What keeps this gate from moving when a dog pushes on it? Is it just the weight of the product?
Thank you for your interest in the Freestanding Pet Barrier in Bronze. The weight of this gate should hold it in place; you should also put the gate against the walls at edges of your opening for stability.
Date published: 2017-08-07
My opening is 45 inches. Could I use the smaller gate and just have a little space on each side?
Thank you for your interest in the 20-inch Freestanding Barrier. The Standard size adjusts from 27" - 40"W. This size could be used in a 45" opening depending on the size of your pet.

Regarding pet barrier 20 inches high (product # 30191)
I like to buy two barriers (70 plus inches each) to put side by side in order to cover a 110 inches opening. The question is what is the space between the two barriers when placed next to each other? can my dog escape? is it more than 2 inches? thank you
Thank you for your interest in the 20-inch Freestanding Barrier. Putting two of these barriers next to each other would not leave less than an inch gap; however, they are designed to be placed against a wall on both sides to add stability. Not having a wall on both sides a barrier will make it easier for a pet to push against and move the barrier.

Are there panels within the gate, is there a flexibility to it? What are the sizes of each panel, can I adjust it to a width of 60in?
Im wondering if I can have to at different angles and not just straight.
You may be able to find out under product specs. but it def. would cover a 5' wide opening. We have ours in a 4' wide doorway and there is plenty of room for expansion in increments of 2.5".

does the 20" freestanding barrier have a gate or is it step over ?
#30191
It's a step over - there may be another design that has a gate, not sure...
Date published: 2016-10-22
what is the weight 0f the 70" barrier?
I'm not sure because we don't have a scale at home but I would guess +/- 12#
Date published: 2016-10-22
Is the gate always on the far side of the fence?
I notice the gate is on the far end of this. When expanded is it possible that part of the expansion would move the gate more toward the middle of the barrier? My doorway is about 60 inches. I live in the northeast so rooms are small and I have obstacles that go out about 6 inches in front of the door frame on both sides, so having the gate flush against either end is not ideal for me, but otherwise I love this gate. Just want to make sure it will work. Thanks!
Thank you for your interest in the 36 - inch Freestanding Barrier with Walk - Through Door. I am very sorry, but this item is designed so that he gate will always be on the far end of the item.

The width of my hallway is 104". Can I get one custom made or is there the ability to add an additional section to one of the standard gates?
Thank you for your interest in the 20-inch Freestanding Barrier. Given the width of your hallway, we recommend looking at item 36443, our Six Panel Mahogany Pet Gate.
Date published: 2015-11-26
Can this gate be used on just a door area?
The gate is needed only to block a door exit not a very large space.
Thank you for your interest in Frontgate. The Standard size Freestanding Barrier can collapse to as small as 27"W, which would accommodate smaller spaces.
Date published: 2014-02-15
How does this gate stay in place? My dog pushes ours out and escapes!.
What keeps this gate from moving if pushed? Or from falling over if pushed? My guys are determined.
Thank you for your interest in Frontgate. The Freestanding Barrier does have rubber feet on the bottom to help provide traction and make it less likely to slide across a hardwood floor. The gate also has feet that stick out on the front, to help prevent the gate from tipping over.
