Granite Base Wine Opener is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 264.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Opening mechanism is not rugged. Limited time use. I have had to replace the major mechanism three times in the last three years. Works great for the first few months then it gets difficult to open the bottle then after while it fails. Then they never have a replacement in stock so i have to buy a whole new opener.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Didn't work I've had one of these wine openers before and loved it. This one flat out does not work! The screw goes into the cork and when I pull the lever back, the screw comes out of the bottle and the cork stays in - now with just a hole in it where the screw went it. I need to return it but haven't had time. Not sure if I'll ask for a replacement. Too bad. I loved the one I had that WORKED...

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Doesn't Last Long Term We really like this wine opener and how attractive it is, but unfortunately our second opener has now broken. Each of them lasted for a few years. The first time, we were able to just buy the replacement opener. This time, they have told us we have to buy an entire new item, which obviously doesn't make sense since the granite base is still perfectly fine. I was able to find just the opener on Wine Enthusiast, but am really disappointed in Frontgate's customer service on this. They usually do better!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Granite Base a wine Opener We absolutely love our wine opener (and re-corker). My husband and I enjoy a glass of wine daily, and have actually had “fun” with this item. Together we (grown adults, both over 60!) watch carefully and act like kids as the cork is reinserted perfectly into the bottle! We don’t have to worry with the bottle leaking when we lay it back in the wine cooler as we would with other wine stoppers! PLUS, It Is Absolutely Beautiful!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not Very Functional Looks great, but not very functional. It never really pulled the cork completely...I always had to play with the bottle to fully extract the cork. After 18 months I encountered a hard cork and the handle broke off. This exposed construction that indicated the opener was really not ment to be used. Makes for a good conversation piece, but not designed for use.

The holes that are drilled into the granite base are far too large to accept the screws that attach the metal arm to the base. Is there supposed to be an insert of some type that will go into the holes in the granite and into which the screws then thread?

Asked by: SLS53
Sorry to seem argumentive, but there were indeed supposed to be inserts (“nutserts”) in the holes that are drilled into the bottom of the base. Frontgate customer service sent me a replacement base, which I received today and which has brass nutserts glued into the holes - as it should be. So now all is good. I just wanted others to know that if they receive a base that appears to have no method by which to attach the arm, then it is a defective base.
