does the inner line come out and go in the freezer or does the whole dish have to go into the freezer?

What is the purpose of the black gasket?

The bowls go into the freezer?
The description is confusing. Do the big bowls have to go into the freezer, or just the gel-based inner layer? If it's the bowls I simply don't have the room.
The bowls come in two pieces. The inside piece does need to go into the freeze. The outer piece does not.

Can the 4qt. sectioned bowl be used as a bowl without the sections?
I did not know if I buy the 4qt sectioned bowl, can I use it as both a sectioned bowl and a non sectioned bowl? Was not sure if the insert comes out so it can be used the same way as the lower priced 4qt non sectioned.
Yes, you can use both pieces individually if needed. The inside bowl is what is insulated. If you freeze it and use it alone, I suggest putting a towel underneath as it will sweat.

Are the individual condiment bowls placed directly in the freezer to chill?
Yes - you place them directly in the freezer. When ready to use put them in the base and it stays chilled.

Fantastic Chilled Appetizer Tray
I've seen this chilled appetizer tray in the Frontgate catalog for years and have always admired it. I bought it and love it. It is fantastic! Easy to prep, keeps shrimp chilled for hours and is great for veggies and dip too. Love the silver finish, looks great on any table. Thanks Frontgate!
