We can’t help the occasional California dreaming. This year, our designers went head-over-heels … swept away by Malibu’s crashing waves, Palm Springs’ desert playground vibe and the emerald glades of Bel Air.
The unique locales and lifestyles proved emblematic for the looks of our fine outdoor furniture, inspiring us to stage our photo shoot for the 2016 Outdoor Book entirely in California. Join us on our amazing journey through the Golden State.
We start in the rolling hills of wine country. A land thick with a tangle of vines, dotted with centuries-old oaks and burnished under the sun to molten gold.
The setting suits collections with earthy hues, such as St. Kitts. Fashioned with wide, sharply angled planks of teak, it’s given a satin-smooth weathered gray finish that blends beautifully with the surroundings.
We cruise down the 101 until we spot epic waves and wide sweeps of golden sand. Malibu is rimmed with seaside mountains and dotted with celebrities. What better place to showcase our coastal collections?
Consider the breathable open weave of Isola. The driftwood-hued all-weather wicker delivers cushionless comfort, making it the perfect fit for coastal climates.
We cruise the Pacific Coast Highway and then snake up the bluffs to Pacific Palisades. This tucked-away haven for A-listers is spiced with eclectic boutiques and cafés.
Low-slung Palisades Seating evokes the area’s easygoing vibe, and Batik pillows and poufs add a Boho chic accent to the warm gray wicker.
The 405 wends its way to this star-studded sanctuary in L.A.’s West Hills. Here, emerald gardens nestle beneath manicured hedges and scrolled gates.
It’s an ideal spot to stage Carlisle, our iconic cast-aluminum collection. Scrolling arms and crisscrossed backs create an inviting backdrop for all-season evenings.
Journey to the mecca of modern sophistication. L.A. is the perfect backdrop for contemporary furniture collections from Porta Forma.
No statement is more arresting than the Luciano Collection, paired with gravity-defying Cava Tables. The tables’ stainless steel spheres rise up like bubbles, elevating the drama of Luciano’s wide-woven bands.
Travel down to Hollywood and a bit back in time, to cinema’s golden age. That silver-screen glamour lives on in the Hollywood Regency design sensibilities of collections like Donatella. A classic black-and-white palette and the settee’s asymmetrical high back add dashes of drama to an outdoor room.
Speaking of old Hollywood, its stars have long flocked to this desert playground, renowned for the cocktail party cool of the Mad Men era.
The Palermo Collection, in traditional, modular and curved arrangements, encourages hours of lounging by the pool. The Palm Springs look comes alive in white wicker, paired with bright hues.
Our final style speaks to the spirit of the state as a whole: casual and easygoing. We kept the regal essence of Mediterranean style, but we relaxed it for a lighter, livable look. The Sorrento Collection projects old-world craftsmanship in solid-cast aluminum, while its inviting silhouette and thick cushions speak of total comfort.
