The fireplace isn’t just Santa’s preferred point of entry for delivering piles of presents and filling stockings. Its mantelpiece provides the perfect surface for festive holiday decorations that can easily transition throughout the season, from Thanksgiving through New Year’s. That’s why we’ve rounded up three ways to transform your mantel into a centerpiece of your holiday home.
We’re all about getting into the holiday spirit as soon as possible. Before going full-on Christmas, start with gilded accents that will set the tone for the upcoming season. A cluster of Ming vases and jars with a statement piece like a decorative mirror or gilded wreath add a dose of transitional style. Bring in some flameless candles for good measure and top it off with lights and a delicate mantel scarf.
Once the season is in full swing, trade out the mantel scarf for pre-lit, cordless garland to ring in the Christmas season. You can even go all-out with pre-decorated greenery that coordinates with the rest of your holiday decor. Layer in ribbon among your vases and statement pieces, or swap the pieces out for something new like a seasonal floral arrangement or an objets d’art. Finally, fill a bowl with embellished ornaments and scatter extra ornaments about the mantel to complete the look.
After December 25th, keep the festive spirit alive with pops of an unexpected color, like powder blue. We love displaying ornaments in tall cloches for a curio feel. Glittering vines and decorative stems in gold mixed with lengths of ribbon in a coordinating color set the tone for ringing in the New Year in style.
